Keto Sloppy Joes are delicious and great to make for a quick weeknight dinner! This recipe is ideal as it is low in carbs and the whole family will LOVE IT!

Keto Sloppy Joes

OK, I’ll be the first to admit that these aren’t quite as easy as opening a can and browning some beef. But, I submit for your consideration that a quarter cup serving of Manwich has 8 grams of carbs and the second ingredient is high fructose corn syrup (aka sugar).

We use lean ground beef. Alternatively, you can use any kind of ground beef, just be sure to drain off the fat before adding the sauce. Ground pork, chicken, or turkey could also be used.

Look for cans of tomato sauce that are just sauce. They could be labeled as tomato puree, or crushed tomatoes. Check the label – you don’t want to use sauce that has added sodium or sugar.

Make a double (or triple batch of sauce) and save some for later! And, to save even more time, take the ground beef out of the freezer the night before and leave it in the fridge to thaw so it’s ready to go.

I made the family’s Sloppy Joes on nice buns, but not wanting to eat the carbs, I made mine on a Keto bun. It was delicious!

  • 1 pound lean ground beef, turkey, or pork
  • 1/2 cup diced green bell pepper
  • 1/4 cup diced onion (1 oz)
  • 1 clove garlic minced or pressed
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp Low carb brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard (or Dijon)
  • 2 tsp red wine vinegar
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth (or water with 1 tsp of beef base)
  • 1/4 tsp each, salt and pepper

  • Place the ground beef (or turkey or pork) in a medium frying pan and turn the heat to medium. Break the meat up into tiny pieces as it cooks. This will take about 7 minutes.
  • When the meat is almost cooked through, stir in all of the other ingredients, finishing with the water, last. Bring up to a simmer, turn down to medium-low and simmer uncovered for about 15 minutes. Taste and adjust seasonings at the end.
  • Serve on a low-carb bun.
