My Taco Pizza recipe is one that you will want to put in your regular dinner rotation! It’s easy (made in about 30 minutes), it’s filling, and best of all, it’s mouthwateringly delicious. Some might even say addicting. Can you stop at just one slice of Taco Pizza? Trust me, you’ll want 2 slices! The pizza crust is topped with meat and cheese then covered with a sour cream drizzle.
It’s our tradition to have pizza on Christmas eve ever since my kids were little. We used to order it and have it delivered so we could give the delivery person a big tip! It’s changed through the years because now that all my kids love to cook, they want to mix it up. It’s not usually your ordinary pizza flavor but a pear gorgonzola pizza, or a sour cream beef enchilada pizza!
One person said, “I love love love this pizza! We had no leftovers.” The great thing about this recipe is you can cut it into large squares and serve it as a main dish. Or, you can cut it into smaller squares and serve it as an appetizer. You know what would be so good on the side? Some beans with homemade salsa and chips and guacamole. So many ways to make this a snack or a full meal.
Notes for this Taco Pizza:
You can make or buy pizza dough. Bakeries often sell premade dough for around $2. Your dough may range in weight between 12-16 ounces. If you like a thick crust, use a 12″ pan and for a thinner crust use a 14″ or 16″ pan. You could even use a 9×13 pan! I bought my crust from Smith’s! It was preformed, just not cooked.
- 1 (12-16 ounce) pizza dough (depending on if you want thick or thin crust)
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 (1 ounce) package taco seasoning
- 1 (15 ounce) can refried beans
- 3/4 cup salsa
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or Mexican blend)
- 1/2 cup onion, diced
- 1 jalapeno, diced (remove the seeds and membrane for less heat)
- Toppings: diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and sour cream
Let pizza dough rest at room temperature for about 20 minutes.
While dough is resting, brown beef in a skillet. Add the taco seasoning, add water called for on the package, and cook according to the package instructions. Set aside.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Press the or roll the dough onto a 12-inch pizza pan or larger pan (see note).
Bake for 8 minutes. Remove from oven.
In a small bowl, stir together the refried beans and salsa. Spread a thin layer onto the pizza crust. If you are using a 12-inch pan you might not need all of it. If you’re using a larger pizza pan or a 9×13 pan you will use all of it.
Sprinkle with the taco meat, onion, jalapeno and cheese. Bake for about 5 minutes or until cheese is completely melted. Remove from the oven and top with tomatoes and lettuce. You can add sour cream to the center or let everyone top their own.
