Teriyaki Chicken Burgers
🍍🍔 Teriyaki Chicken Burgers with Pineapple Slaw — Sweet, Savory, and Totally Swoon-Worthy
Because your taste buds deserve a tropical vacation without leaving your backyard.

These Teriyaki Chicken Burgers are the perfect balance of sweet, savory, and tangy — a little island getaway sandwiched between two buns. Juicy ground chicken patties are infused with teriyaki goodness, topped with a crisp pineapple slaw, and served on a toasted bun for that irresistible crunch-meets-juiciness bite.
We’re talking:
- Juicy, flavorful patties that stay tender thanks to panko and teriyaki sauce.
- A bright, crunchy slaw with pineapple for a sweet pop.
- Easy weeknight prep — ready in under 30 minutes.
- Kid-friendly flavors with a grown-up twist.
If you’ve been craving something fresh, fun, and a little different from your usual burger night, this is it.
I love teriyaki chicken, it’s one of my favorite foods. Why not make it into a burger. I would always pass the ground chicken in the grocery store and think, what do people make with that? I mean I still don’t have a ton of recipes for ground chicken but I have been using it more often now.
I don’t like ground turkey as much as ground chicken. This recipe will forever be one of my favorites!

Teriyaki Chicken Burgers
Ingredients
- lb. ground chicken
- 1/3 cup teriyaki sauce
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups tricolor shredded cabbage
- 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon seasoned rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 1/4 cup crushed pineapple
- 4 hamburger Buns (I used Keto buns)
Directions
- Make the Slaw
- In a medium bowl, whisk together sesame oil, rice vinegar, sugar, salt, green onions, and pineapple until well combined.
- Toss in shredded cabbage and mix until coated.
- Refrigerate — the longer it chills, the better the flavor.
- Make the Patties
- In a large bowl, combine ground chicken, teriyaki sauce, panko, garlic powder, and salt.
- Mix with your hands until just combined.
- Form into 4 equal patties.
- Grill the Burgers
- Heat grill to medium.
- Cook patties for 3–5 minutes on the first side until golden and mostly cooked through.
- Flip and cook another 2–3 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 165°F.
- Toast the Buns
- Optional but delicious: Brush buns with olive oil and toast on the grill for the last few minutes of cooking.
- Assemble
- Place patty on bun, top with slaw, drizzle with extra teriyaki sauce, and serve immediately.

Teriyaki Chicken Burgers
👩🍳 Cooking Tips for Burger Bliss
- Don’t overmix — keeps patties tender.
- Chill patties before grilling — helps them hold shape.
- Use a meat thermometer — chicken must hit 165°F for safety.
- Make slaw ahead — flavors deepen after an hour in the fridge.
- Brush buns with oil or butter — for that golden, toasty crunch.
🎨 Recipe Variations
- Spicy Kick — Add sriracha to the teriyaki sauce or slaw.
- Hawaiian Twist — Top with a grilled pineapple ring.
- Low-Carb — Serve patties in lettuce wraps instead of buns.
- Asian Fusion — Add a smear of wasabi mayo under the patty.
- Extra Crunch — Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds on the slaw.
🧒 Kid Tips
- Make mini sliders for little hands.
- Keep slaw mild — skip extra vinegar if they’re sensitive to tang.
- Let kids help assemble — they’ll love “building” their burger.
- Serve with sweet potato fries for a fun side.
🛒 Grocery Hacks
- Ground chicken — buy in bulk and freeze portions.
- Panko — store in the freezer to keep fresh longer.
- Pre-shredded cabbage — saves time and cleanup.
- Teriyaki sauce — keep a bottle in the pantry for quick marinades.
- Canned pineapple — great to have on hand for slaw, smoothies, or desserts.

💭 Final Thoughts
These burgers are proof that weeknight dinners don’t have to be boring. They’re fresh, flavorful, and just a little bit fancy — without requiring a culinary degree or hours in the kitchen.
There’s something magical about a burger that surprises you. You expect savory, but then you get that sweet pineapple pop. You expect heavy, but you get light, fresh crunch from the slaw. You expect “just another burger,” but you get a tropical flavor party that makes you want to dance in your kitchen.
This recipe is my reminder that food can be both comforting and adventurous. It’s the kind of meal that makes Tuesday night feel like a mini vacation. And the best part? You can make it your own — swap sauces, change toppings, play with flavors.
So here’s my challenge: make it, love it, and share it. Post your version with #TropicalBurgerChallenge so we can all drool together. Because the only thing better than eating a great burger… is knowing you’ve inspired someone else to make one too.
Here’s to sweet, savory, saucy moments — and the recipes that make them happen. 🍍💛🍔
