Death By Chocolate Poke Cake

Death By Chocolate Poke Cake

This delicious Death by Chocolate Poke Cake is super moist with the chocolate pudding added to the mix. I then topped it with a whipped cream and chocolate pudding,  AND but chunks of chocolate candy bar. I figured if I was going to call it a Death by Chocolate Poke Cake that meant there was no such thing as too much chocolate. Chocolate lovers this one is for you!

First of all, for the life of me, I can’t cut a perfect square piece of cake!! lol!

If this cake can’t perk you right up after a long day of busy life and make you forget all about signing dirty dishes and washing clothes, I don’t know what will!

Don’t let that sweet exterior fool you. This cake may start with a basic chocolate cake mix but it sure doesn’t finish as one.  I have taken it up a notch with the richness and texture with  chunks of chocolate bar and a box of chocolate pudding.

You may have noticed that this cake does not have a traditional butter cream frosting.  I love frosting and I’m always a little weary when it comes to other icings but this one won’t disappoint!   Since this cake is so dense and rich, the light, fluffy chocolate topping is perfect to balance that out.

INGREDIENTS

FOR THE CAKE:

  • 1 pkg. (15.25 oz.) devils food chocolate cake mix
  • Ingredients listed on the box to make the cake
  • 1 box (3.56 oz.) instant Chocolate Pudding mix
  • 4 cups milk, divided
  • 1 jar (12.8 oz.) Fudge Ice Cream topping

FOR THE TOPPING:

  • 1 box (3.56 oz.) instant Chocolate Pudding mix
  • 1 container (8 oz.) frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 Giant (6.8 oz.) Hershey Milk Chocolate candy bar, chopped

directions

  1. Bake the cake according to package directions using a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Mix the pudding mix with 2 cups of milk in a medium bowl. Poke holes in the hot cake with the round end of a wooden spoon and slowly pour this mixture over the cake, trying to fill the holes.
  3. Microwave the chocolate topping (with the lid off) for about 45 seconds or until it pours easily. Pour evenly over the top of the cake. Let the cake cool completely.
  4. In a medium bowl, combine the second pudding mix with the additional 2 cups of milk. Carefully fold in the whipped topping. Spread the mixture evenly over the top of the cake. Sprinkle the chopped candy bar over the top.
  5. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours. Store the cake (covered) in the refrigerator.

  1. I wonder if this will work with a gluten free cake mix. I’m certain there isn’t a gluten free devil’s food chocolate cake mix, but you never know!

    1. I’m sure you can! it doesn’t have to be devil’s food. you can use any chocolate cake. Please let me know how it turns out!
