🍝 Spaghetti Garlic Bread — The Ultimate Comfort Food Mash-Up

“Why choose between spaghetti night and garlic bread night… when you can have BOTH in the same bite?”

Spaghetti Garlic Bread #spaghetti #pasta #garlicbread #dinner #recipe #familydinner #beef

This Spaghetti Garlic Bread is the kind of recipe that makes people stop mid-bite and say, “Wait… why have I never had this before?” Imagine a crispy, buttery garlic bread bowl stuffed to the brim with saucy spaghetti and topped with melty mozzarella. It’s handheld comfort food, party showstopper, and weeknight dinner hero all rolled into one.

This recipe is:

  • Fun to eat — no plates required if you’re feeling casual.
  • Perfect for feeding a crowd — everyone gets their own bread bowl.
  • Customizable — swap sauces, proteins, or cheeses to suit your mood.
  • Kid-approved — because pasta + bread + cheese = happiness.

Let’s make some magic.

I love a good bowl of spaghetti! The layer of flavors are unmatching.  It also gives the feeling of home! I just don’t think you can have spaghetti and it wouldn’t be the same without a big piece of garlic bread!

Why spaghetti in a bread bowl? I had never thought of using bread bowls for spaghetti, until now! Yes, it really makes a difference, and you will never want to make spaghetti the old way again!

Spaghetti Garlic Bread Tips

  • Bread: Using bread bowl is essential to this recipe! You need bread that can hold its own underneath all that luscious spaghetti. After cutting off the top, I hollow out about half of the fluffy part of the bread. Then I compress the rest of the fluffy bread with my fingers so the “bowl” will have a little more substance and strength.
  • Pasta: I use spaghetti for this recipe, as per its namesake — but you use whatever pasta you have on hand! I do think that because of the length of the spaghetti noodles and how it tangles up, it stays in the garlic bread shell best when cut into individual pieces.
  • Cheese: For the melty cheese topping on this recipe, I use mozzarella — but you can use any Italian cheese you like! Try provolone, taleggio, or a velvety smooth burrata.

Brown the hamburger with a chopped, small onion in a skillet, until brown. Drain off excess oil.

Mix together in a small bowl, 1 stick of softened butter with garlic, parsley and Italian seasoning. Brush generously all over the bread bowl. Cook on 400 degrees for 5 minutes, and set aside. You can also buy a premade garlic butter at your local store.

Add 1 bottle of your favorite marinara sauce to the beef mixture. Let simmer on low for a few minutes.

Add cooked pasta to the marinara and combined well. Once combined, place a heaping amount in each bread bowl. Add a generous amount of cheese to the top of each bread bowl. Cook for 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Serve immediately.

  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • Garlic Butter
  • 1 stick butter, softened
  • 3 to 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon parsley, minced

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Spray the sheet pan with cooking spray. Set aside.
  2. : In a large skillet, over medium heat, brown ground beef, and onion until no longer pink. Drain excess oil.
  3. Add spaghetti sauce, salt, and pepper. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Add cooked noodles and toss to coat. Set aside and cover to keep warm
  5. In a medium bowl combine butter, garlic, Italian seasoning, and parsley. Stir until well combined.
  6. Cut the centers out of the tops of the rolls, making sure that the base of the bread remains attached, so not cutting all the way through. Place rolls on the sheet pan.
  7. Spoon and brush the garlic butter sauce equally on each roll (inside and out). You will use 2-3 tablespoons of the garlic butter sauce per roll.

👩‍🍳 Cooking Tips for the Best Spaghetti Garlic Bread

  • Choose sturdy bread — crusty boules or sourdough hold up best.
  • Don’t overcook pasta — slightly underdone noodles will finish cooking in the oven.
  • Brush generously — more garlic butter = more flavor.
  • Cheese shield — sprinkle a little mozzarella inside before adding spaghetti to keep bread from getting soggy.
  • Serve immediately — bread bowls are best fresh from the oven.

🎨 Recipe Variations

  • Chicken Alfredo Bowls — swap marinara and beef for Alfredo sauce and grilled chicken.
  • Veggie Lovers — add sautéed mushrooms, peppers, and zucchini to the sauce.
  • Spicy Kick — stir red pepper flakes into the garlic butter.
  • Four Cheese — mix mozzarella, provolone, Parmesan, and fontina for a gooey cheese pull.
  • Pesto Twist — drizzle pesto over the top before serving.

🧒 Kid Tips

  • Let kids help brush the garlic butter — they’ll feel like mini chefs.
  • Serve with mini bread rolls for smaller portions.
  • Skip onions or chop them extra fine for picky eaters.
  • Offer a “topping bar” with extra cheese or pepperoni slices.

🛒 Grocery Hacks

  • Buy bakery bread bowls — fresher and sturdier than pre-packaged rolls.
  • Use leftover spaghetti — this recipe is perfect for repurposing last night’s dinner.
  • Block cheese > pre-shredded — melts creamier and tastes fresher.
  • Bulk ground beef — cook and freeze in portions for quick meals.
  • Garlic paste — a time-saver if you don’t want to mince cloves.
