Raisin Cookies
🍪✨ Chewy Cinnamon Raisin Cookies — Just Like Grandma’s, Only Cuter
Some cookies are a snack. These cookies? They’re a hug wearing cinnamon perfume.

The moment they come out of the oven, the buttery cinnamon aroma swirls around your kitchen like a warm blanket, and you just know you’ve made something special. The chewy raisins give a burst of sweetness in every bite, the cinnamon whispers nostalgia, and the golden edges practically beg to be nibbled while they’re still warm.
If there were ever a cookie that could win a bake sale, soothe a rainy-day mood, and bribe your kids into folding laundry — this is it.
When I was first married, my grandma, gave me a recipe book filled with recipes from her neighbors. She was quite excited because a lot of them were from her neighbor that was a chef! Back then, that is how you would get your recipes and inspiration. It wasn’t so easy, just to get onto the internet and search for recipes.
The world has opened up to me, when it comes to cooking. I have been inspired by recipes from all over the country and especially regions in the United States. I love reading about recipes that have been passed down for generations and ones that someone just stumbled across.
It’s crazy, some old standbys, seem to stand the test of time. The other day, my hubby, was asking about this recipe and why I haven’t made it for awhile. Seriously, once you make these, you will understand! The raisins make this cookie. They are so plump and juicy, you won’t be able to stop eating them!
Why You Need These Cookies in Your Life
Every family has that one recipe — the one that brings everyone running the second the scent escapes the oven. For my family, it’s these Chewy Cinnamon Raisin Cookies. There’s something old-fashioned and comforting about them, like a recipe you’d imagine written in looping script on a weathered index card, passed down for generations.
But don’t be fooled by their “vintage” charm — these cookies have staying power. They’re soft, thick, perfectly spiced, and have a slightly caramelized chew thanks to the boiled raisins and buttery base. And the best part? They are ridiculously easy to make, no fancy equipment required.
This is the kind of recipe you’ll reach for when you want your house to smell like you’ve been baking all day, even though they take less than 30 minutes start to finish.

It took me a couple of times making these again, because I wanted to perfect them before sharing with you!

👩🍳 Cooking Tips You’ll Thank Me For
- Soak Time Matters — Don’t skip plumping the raisins; it’s the secret to their juicy chew.
- Chill for Chunky Cookies — If you want thicker, bakery-style cookies, chill dough for 30 minutes before baking.
- Crispy vs. Soft — For crispier edges, bake on a light-colored metal pan. For softer cookies, under bake by a minute or two.
- Big Batch Love — Double the recipe and freeze half the dough in balls; bake straight from frozen, adding 2 minutes to bake time.
🎨 Fun Recipe Variations
- Oatmeal Raisin Twist — Add 1 cup old-fashioned oats to the dough.
- Nutty for You — Fold in ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans.
- Choco-Raisin Hybrid — Toss in ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips for a kid-approved mash-up.
- Holiday Spice — Add nutmeg and cloves for a Christmas-y feel.
👧 Kid Tips for Happy Little Bakers
- Measure & Dump — Let kids measure dry ingredients and “dump” them in like mini chefs.
- Mix Master — Kids love turning the mixer on and off (with supervision).
- Naming Rights — Ask them to rename the cookies for fun (“Pirate Treasure Cookies” always wins in my house).
- Mini Versions — Make tiny bite-sized cookies for little hands.
🛒 Grocery Hacks for Budget-Friendly Baking
- Store-Brand Wins — Generic raisins and sugar often taste identical to name brands for half the cost.
- Bulk Spices — Buy cinnamon from bulk bins; it’s fresher and cheaper.
- Flour Swap — If you’re low on AP flour, mix pastry flour and bread flour for a similar result.
- Stock & Store — Buy butter on sale and freeze it; it lasts months and saves serious cash.
💬 A Little Cookie Nostalgia
These cookies take me straight back to my grandma’s kitchen, where raisins were the crown jewels of baking. She’d pluck them from a worn cardboard canister, measure with her eyes, and somehow always make a batch that tasted like love and after-school stories.
🌟 Final Thoughts
Raisin cookies might not be the flashiest treat in the jar, but they have a superpower — they make people feel at home. They’re chewy where it counts, comforting with every bite, and secretly just as good for breakfast as they are for dessert.
