Let’s get cooking!
My husband, before we were married, served a 2 year mission in Korea, for our church. At the beginning of our marriage, we weren’t as adventurous as we are now, so we didn’t try a lot of Korean recipes, but it seems like lately, Korean inspired restaurants are popping up all over! So it stands to reason that we had to start trying the new craze!
If you haven’t tried anything Korean, the flavors are sweet and savory combined. This hamburger does have a little kick, just to let you know that your alive! lol!!!

Korean Inspired Burger
One of the star flavor is gochujang, it’s the spice, and it’s easy to find! It can be found in most major grocery store chains in the Asian grocery aisle. You can buy it on Amazon.
TIPS AND TRICKS
COOK TIMES: Cooking times can vary depending on what you are using to cook your burgers on. To make sure your burgers are cooked through use your trusty thermometer. You want your burger to reach 145 degrees for a medium rare burger and 160 degrees for medium.
COLE SLAW: I wouldn’t make the coleslaw ahead of time because it doesn’t stay as crispy.

Cooking Tips
- Marinate for maximum flavor: Let your patties soak in that soy-sesame marinade for at least 30 minutes (up to 2 hours) in the fridge.
- Press, don’t smash: Gently shape—not overwork—your patties and press a small dent in the center. It helps them cook evenly without puffing up.
- Get that sear: Preheat your pan or grill to medium-high; a hot surface locks in juices and creates a killer crust.
- Bacon brilliance: Toss your thick-cut bacon in gochujang, brown sugar, and soy sauce. Cook low and slow until caramelized, then finish under the broiler for blistered edges.
- Keep it crispy: Drain coleslaw and pat on paper towels before layering in your bun to avoid soggy bites.
- Rest before stacking: Let patties and bacon rest 3–5 minutes after cooking so juices redistribute—your burger stays juicy but never drippy.
Recipe Variations
- Turkey or Chicken Patties: Swap beef for ground turkey or chicken. Add extra sesame oil to keep them juicy.
- Kimchi Kick: Swap the coleslaw for quick-pickled kimchi; balance heat with a drizzle of honey.
- Cheesy Upgrade: Melt provolone or pepper jack on the patty before assembly for gooey, savory goodness.
- Veggie Version: Grill thick portobello caps in the same marinade; stack with avocado and miso-mayo instead of bacon.
- Spice It Up: Stir a pinch of gochugaru into your patty mix or swap half the mayo for spicy gochujang mayo for a deeper fire.
Serve these beauties straight off the grill with extra gochujang mayo on the side and a mountain of sweet potato fries or an Asian-style cucumber salad. Enjoy every juicy, crunchy, savory bite!
