How To Make Moving Less Crappy Part 2

(The version that feels like your best friend is holding your hand while you pack your junk drawer.)

And that is EXACTLY what I’m about to deliver.

How To Make Moving Less Crappy Part 2

Jessica wrote Part 1 to this when she moved in so I thought I’d add a few of my tips too now that we’ve moved in as well. Moving is no easy task!! If you have any other tips please share! I’m still unpacking!

(Because Part 1 wasn’t enough to save your sanity.)

If you’ve ever moved before, you already know: Moving is basically cardio wrapped in chaos wrapped in emotional damage.

But here’s the good news — it doesn’t have to be the worst thing you do this year. And because we’re LouLouGirls around here, we’re not settling for “surviving” a move. No, ma’am. We’re going for thriving, laughing, organizing, and maybe even enjoying the process. (Okay, maybe not enjoying. But at least not crying in the pantry.)

Welcome to Part 2 of “How to Make Moving Less Crappy,” where we take everything you think you know about moving and sprinkle it with sass, strategy, and sanity‑saving hacks.

Let’s get one thing straight: Moving is not for the faint of heart. It’s a full‑body workout, a mental marathon, and a spiritual test all rolled into one. It’s the Olympics of adulthood — except no one gives you a medal, and you have to pay for the privilege.

But here’s the thing: Most of the misery of moving comes from not having a plan. Or having a plan but abandoning it the moment you open a closet and find 47 mismatched Tupperware lids and a Halloween costume from 2014.

So today, we’re going deeper. We’re talking about the hacks, the mindset shifts, the systems, and the “why didn’t anyone tell me this sooner?” tips that make moving feel less like chaos and more like a controlled, mildly inconvenient adventure.

This is the guide you wish you had before your last move. This is the guide you’ll send to your sister, your best friend, your coworker, and that one neighbor who always borrows your ladder. This is the guide that will make you feel like the CEO of your move — clipboard optional but highly encouraged.

How To Make Moving Less Crappy Part 2

1. Pack a Move-in Day Essentials Box: Click on the link for the full post but this should have everything from toilet paper to scissors!

2. Visit the Grocery Store: If possible, go shopping at what will soon be your local grocery store before you move in so you can familiarize yourself with it. This way getting food into your home won’t seem like another stressful thing to add to your list!

3. Prioritize the Unpacking By Bed, Kitchen, Bathroom: Everyone in your house will be a lot happier if they at least have a place to sleep, eat, and shower.

4. Make Freezer Meals: There are a million tutorials on pinterest, just do it!!! It has saved our lives. Eating out every night is expensive so save time, money, and stress and plan some meals ahead of time. I did a bunch of crockpot ones, so for the first three days I’d just throw it in in the morning and we had a mess free dinner to enjoy.

5. Get a Babysitter for More Than Just Move-in Day: Un-packing with kids running around can be a little crazy. Enlist some help so you can get organized first!

Moving will never be glamorous. It will never be effortless. It will never be the highlight of your year. But it can be manageable. It can be organized. It can be less crappy — especially when you have a plan, a sense of humor, and a community cheering you on.

So whether you’re moving across town, across the country, or across the street, remember this:

You’re capable. You’re resourceful. You’re stronger than you think. And you’re absolutely allowed to order pizza and call it dinner for three days straight.

Now go conquer that move like the queen you are — and come back to tell me how it went. We’re in this together.
