💬 Reader prompt: Are you team “eat bananas straight up” or team “only edible once baked into something fabulous”?
You know how it is! You buy bananas for the family hoping that they will eat them before they go brown. Sometimes they do but usually they don’t! lol! Honestly, that’s the best! It gives you an excuse to make delicious, ooey, gooey chocolate chip banana bars!
We were heading out of town, when I realized I had bananas begging me to make them into a delicious treat! The great thing is this that this recipe comes together really fast and is so easy to make! Perfect for BBQs, potlucks, parties and after school snacks!

CAN I USE UNRIPE BANANAS?
It’s best to use ripe or overripe bananas in these bars. They will be much sweeter and more flavorful than underripe. They will also be easier to mash. But if you are in a pinch, go ahead, the flavor might be a little different but still delicious!
HOW LONG WILL THEY LAST?
Once your bars are cooled, cut them into bars, place them into an airtight container. At room temperature they will last for up to 3 days and will keep for up to 7 days in the fridge. They make a great addition to daily lunchboxes! I really don’t think you have to worry about this, they will be gone before you know it!
DO THEY FREEZE WELL?
Yes! You can freeze these banana bars. Two options: freeze them in the dish, or wrap them individually and place in freezer bags.

TIPS FOR THESE BAD BOYS
- The more ripe your bananas are the sweeter and more banana flavored these bars will be. My mother in law freezes her ripe bananas so she can use them at a later date. That way, you always have bananas for your next recipe!
- Don’t over mix the batter. The more you work the batter, the drier the bar.
- Let the cake cool completely before cutting into bars. Unless you just can’t wait!

Here’s the thing about banana bars — they’re never just bars. They’re the smell of bananas baking, the joy of biting into melty chocolate, the comfort of knowing your snack game is strong.
And these Chocolate Chip Banana Bars? They’re keepers. They’re soft, they’re golden, they’re gooey, they’re fun. They’re the kind of recipe that makes you feel like you’ve turned everyday ingredients into something bakery‑worthy.
