What’s In My Hospital Bag: The Ultimate Pregnancy Packing Guide for Delivery Day
Let’s be honest — packing your hospital bag is one of the most exciting “oh wow, this baby is REALLY coming” moments of pregnancy.
I am due in two weeks!!! I have been getting our hospital bags ready so I thought I’d share what I put in ours for any first-time moms who aren’t exactly sure what to expect.
Because suddenly it hits you.
The nursery is ready.
The tiny clothes are folded.
The car seat is installed.
And your doctor casually says something like, “Make sure your hospital bag is packed.”
Wait… what?
Packed?!
As in we could be leaving for the hospital anytime now?
Welcome to the final stretch of pregnancy, mama — where every little cramp makes you pause dramatically and wonder if today is the day.
Packing your hospital bag is one of those milestone pregnancy tasks that feels both thrilling and slightly overwhelming. You want to be prepared. You want to be comfortable. And you definitely don’t want to be the person yelling across the house during contractions, “Where are my slippers?!”
But here’s the truth that every experienced mom eventually learns:
Your hospital bag doesn’t have to be complicated.
In fact, most hospitals already provide many of the essentials you’ll need during your stay — things like diapers, wipes, and postpartum supplies — which means your job is simply to bring the things that make you comfortable. ()
The goal isn’t to pack your entire house.
The goal is to pack a few thoughtful essentials that help you feel calm, supported, and ready to welcome your new little human.
And if you’re a first-time mom, you might be wondering:
-
What do I actually need in my hospital bag?
-
When should I pack it?
-
How many outfits does baby need?
-
Do I really need snacks? (Spoiler alert: YES.)
Don’t worry — we’ve got you covered.
At Lou Lou Girls, we believe preparing for baby should feel exciting, empowering, and maybe just a little bit fun.
So today we’re breaking down exactly what to pack in your hospital bag, inspired by our original Lou Lou Girls list — with plenty of practical tips, a little sass, and some real-life mom wisdom along the way.
Let’s dive in.
Why Packing Your Hospital Bag Early Is a Game Changer
Pregnancy has a funny way of making you feel both incredibly prepared and wildly unprepared at the exact same time.
You might have:
-
The crib assembled
-
Baby clothes washed
-
Diapers stocked
-
Nursery decorated like a Pinterest dream
But if your hospital bag isn’t packed yet?
Suddenly things feel very real.
Most experts suggest packing your hospital bag around 34–36 weeks of pregnancy, just in case baby decides to arrive early. ()
Because babies love surprises.
One minute you’re eating dinner.
The next minute you’re timing contractions while your partner panic-packs socks.
Avoid that chaos by packing early.
Trust us — future you will be grateful.
Lou Lou Girls reader moment:
Did you pack your hospital bag weeks early… or were you throwing things in a bag while your contractions started?
No judgment. We’ve heard both stories.

Great list! I totally forgot Lanolin last time and this list reminded me I still need to buy some for this baby. 32 weeks but the docs know I won't make it to 40. So I really need to get on that. I didn't pack snacks but my hospital has awesome snacks for both Mom and Dad that are included. (visiting from the Tips and Tricks link party)
Glad I could help!! Good luck! 😉
I was going to totally tell you you forgot snacks until I did a second check. In my experience, my kids and husband ending up eating all of my snacks anyways. Make sure to hide one or two for yourself!
