Top 10 Baby Shower Gift Ideas That New Moms Actually Want
If you’ve ever walked into a baby store looking for the perfect baby shower gift and immediately felt overwhelmed by seventeen aisles of tiny socks, pastel gadgets, and mysterious baby contraptions… you are absolutely not alone.
Top 10 Baby Shower Gift Ideas
The other day my neighborhood friends threw me a baby shower and it was so much fun! Since this is my second baby though, I already had the stuff from this list so they gave the next best things, adorable clothes (cause cute babies can never have enough!), and gift cards!
Those are honestly the perfect gifts for second baby showers, I think because then the mom can get whatever she might need, but here is a list of my top ten gifts from my first baby shower for those of you shopping for first-time moms.
Because baby shopping can be equal parts adorable and confusing.
One minute you’re swooning over tiny baby shoes that are the size of a walnut. The next minute you’re staring at something labeled “wipe warmer” and wondering if babies are secretly royalty.
And while baby showers are meant to celebrate an exciting new chapter, choosing the right gift can feel like a surprisingly big decision.
You want something thoughtful.
Something useful.
Something that won’t immediately get returned.
And ideally, something the new parents will look at and say, “Oh my gosh, we needed this!”
The truth is, when a baby is on the way, parents are preparing for a major life change. They’re stocking up on supplies, creating a nursery, learning about feeding schedules, and mentally preparing for a human who will require care approximately 24 hours a day.
That’s where great baby shower gifts come in.
The best gifts aren’t always the fanciest or the most expensive. In fact, many of the most appreciated gifts are the ones that make everyday life with a newborn just a little bit easier.
Think practical.
Think thoughtful.
Think “this will save a tired parent at 2:00 a.m.”
Because if there’s one universal truth about newborn life, it’s this:
Sleep deprivation is real.
New parents quickly discover that even simple tasks—like finding a burp cloth or warming a bottle—can feel much harder when you’ve only slept in 90-minute increments.
That’s why the most loved baby shower gifts tend to fall into a few important categories:
-
Everyday essentials
-
Comfort items
-
Organization helpers
-
Sentimental keepsakes
-
Practical gear parents use constantly
And let’s not forget one more important thing:
Babies grow incredibly fast.
That adorable newborn outfit might only fit for a few weeks. The tiny socks might mysteriously disappear. And suddenly parents are realizing that the baby registry didn’t cover everything.
Which means thoughtful gifts from friends and family can make a huge difference.
At Lou Lou Girls, we love celebrating life’s big milestones—especially ones that involve tiny humans, cute baby gear, and joyful gatherings filled with cake and laughter.
So today we’re sharing ten baby shower gift ideas that parents truly appreciate—the kind of gifts that get used, loved, and remembered long after the baby shower decorations come down.
Whether you’re shopping for a best friend, sister, coworker, or neighbor, these ideas will help you pick a gift that feels meaningful and helpful.
And because we’re all about community here, we’ll also sprinkle in a few fun reader prompts along the way.
Sound good?
Let’s dive in.
1. Shopping Cart Hammock: This thing is awesome! I just got one and I am super excited because grocery shopping with a little babe in a GIANT car seat means you can only fit about six groceries.
2. Diaper Pail: A diaper pail is great because it blocks out the scent from the diapers and makes it so you have to make fewer trips to the garbage can.
3. Swing: This is a baby must-have!
4. Play-gym: Another baby must-have!
5. Nursing Essentials: If you know the momma-to-be will be nursing, hook her up with some of the things she’ll need because it’s hard to know until you’ve actually done it before. You could also easily turn this into bottle-feeding essentials of course! (i.e. Nursing pads, lanolin, nursing cover, nursing cami, boppy pillow, etc.)
6. Hospital Essentials: Help her out with everything she might want at the hospital! (i.e. slippers, robe, nightgown with matching baby outfit, travel pillow, etc.)
7. Swim Time Essentials: Taking baby’s swimming is so much fun so get that baby ready to go, especially if it’s summer! (i.e. Swimsuit, towel, baby sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, etc.)
8. Bath Time Essentials: This is something the baby will be doing every day so it’s definitely a necessity. (i.e. infant tub, hooded towels, washcloths, robe, soap, shampoo, toys, etc.)
9. Bed Time Essentials: Just think, if you’re the one who gives the baby the only blanket that will put him to sleep, momma is going to LOVE you forever! (i.e. blanket, jammies, stuffed animal, books, lavender lotion, binky, etc.)
10. Mom Recovery Items: The baby shower isn’t just for the baby, help momma out with some things she’ll want after the baby is born. (i.e. comfy clothes, bed pillow, book, free babysitting, slippers, etc.)
Final Thoughts: Celebrating a New Baby
Baby showers are about more than gifts.
They’re about celebrating a new life, supporting parents, and sharing excitement for the journey ahead.
The best baby shower gifts combine thoughtfulness and practicality, helping parents feel prepared for the adventure of welcoming a newborn.
And whether the gift is big or small, the love behind it is what truly matters.
Because every baby deserves to be welcomed into the world with joy, support, and a whole lot of adorable tiny socks.

Going to sound stupid but every time someone I work with has a baby, I give either formula or diapers. People laugh at me but when my two were being born I was so happy to receive those.
No that's a great gift! Anything that you run out of is always nice to have more of!

I love these ideas. Shopping for the first baby is always easy but its shopping for the 2nd or 3rd thats really fun. You can buy the fun extras that aren't technically necessities.
I love these ideas- one thing is that all swimsuits that I ever actually used had the snaps on the bottom- so many accidents! I never had the baby carrier for the shopping cart- that is genius!
These are really good gift ideas! Thanks for sharing at Submarine Sunday!

Love #1. Those were not around when mine were infant stage. That would've made a shopping difference! Visiting from Cup of Morning Joe.
