Monster Rice Krispie Treats: The Spooky, Silly, Gooey Halloween Treat Everyone Will Love
If Halloween desserts had a personality, these Monster Rice Krispie Treats would definitely be the goofy, candy-covered, three-eyed party guest that everyone secretly hopes shows up. 👀🎃
Because I have had such bad morning sickness I’ve been a really lame mom/wife lately. It’s a sad thing to be in October because I love getting festive for Halloween. In an attempt to spice things up a bit I wanted to throw a kick-off to October party for my son and husband.
Sure, there are the classics.
Pumpkin cookies.
Chocolate cupcakes.
Candy bowls overflowing with every sugary creation imaginable.
But sometimes the best Halloween treats are the ones that are a little silly, a little spooky, and ridiculously easy to make.
Enter the star of today’s kitchen adventure:
Monster Rice Krispie Treats.
They’re colorful.
They’re goofy.
They’re covered in candy eyes.
And they might just be the most fun dessert you can make with kids.
These treats take the nostalgic magic of classic Rice Krispie treats and turn them into edible Halloween monsters.
We’re talking bright colors, funny faces, and enough personality to make your dessert table look like it’s hosting a tiny monster convention.
And the best part?

First of all, they’re ridiculously easy.
No baking.
No complicated ingredients.
No standing around waiting for cakes to cool.
Just melt, mix, press, and decorate.
That’s it.
Rice Krispie treats have been a beloved dessert for decades because they’re quick, kid-friendly, and endlessly customizable.
But the real magic?
You can transform them into almost anything.
Holiday desserts.
Birthday treats.
School party snacks.
Or in this case…
adorable Halloween monsters.

What Makes Monster Rice Krispie Treats So Fun
The beauty of Monster Rice Krispie Treats is that there are no rules.
Your monster can have:
• one eye
• three eyes
• ten eyes
• crooked teeth
• vampire fangs
• a goofy grin
The sillier the better.
Some monsters look scary.
Some look adorable.
Some look like they just woke up from a nap.
And honestly?
Those are usually the cutest ones.
Decorating these treats is half the fun, especially for kids.
Kids love adding candy eyes, colorful frosting, and goofy expressions to make each monster unique.
Which means this recipe isn’t just dessert.
It’s an activity.
I had grand plans of Homemade Apple Cider, a fabulous meal of Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Chili, delicious dessert, and festive gifts. Reality settled on Crockpot Taco Soup made from whatever I could find in the pantry, rice Krispie treats that I didn’t have the right food coloring for, and two little books for Cooper wrapped in pre-used wrapping paper. A classic it’s-the-thought-that-counts moment. It was still fun!
I meant to make these pumpkin-shaped rice Krispy treats from Cincy Shopper, but found out a little too late that I didn’t have any red food coloring to make orange. I improvised and made green monsters! My one-year-old loved them. Plus they were super simple and easy which is exactly what I needed.
Monster Rice Krispie Treats
INGREDIENTS:
3 tbsp. Butter
10 oz. Marshmallows (approx. 1 Bag)
Green Food Coloring
3 Tootsie Rolls
DIRECTIONS:
2. Add marshmallows and stir constantly until melted
3. Remove from heat
5. Add approx. 6 drops of green food coloring
7. Form small balls into a monster shape
8. Cut a piece of tootsie roll for the eyes. (I also added a white sprinkle)
Decorating Your Monster Rice Krispie Treats
This is the part where things get hilarious.
Cut your treats into squares or rectangles.
Then grab your decorating supplies.
Add candy eyes.
Draw silly mouths with decorating gel.
Add fangs, teeth, eyebrows, or goofy smiles.
Some decorating ideas:
Cyclops Monsters
One giant eyeball.
Very dramatic.
Three-Eyed Monsters
Stack candy eyes vertically.
Instant alien vibes.
Vampire Monsters
Add two red gel fangs.
Very spooky.
Goofy Monsters
Give them giant grins and mismatched eyes.
Honestly these are the best.

Why Simple Treats Become the Best Traditions
Here’s something we’ve learned over the years.
The treats kids remember most aren’t always the fancy ones.
They’re the fun ones.
The silly ones.
The ones they helped make.
Monster Rice Krispie Treats hit that sweet spot perfectly.
They’re easy.
They’re creative.
And they turn dessert into an experience.
Which is exactly what Halloween should be.
The Silliest Halloween Treat Ever
Monster Rice Krispie Treats prove that the best Halloween desserts don’t have to be complicated to be memorable.
With just a few simple ingredients and a handful of candy decorations, you can transform a classic marshmallow cereal treat into a tray full of colorful, goofy little monsters that are guaranteed to make everyone smile.
They’re quick to make, incredibly fun to decorate, and perfect for everything from classroom parties to Halloween movie nights at home.
Even better, they turn baking into a creative activity that kids love to help with—because when it comes to decorating monsters, there really are no rules.
Every monster can have its own personality, whether that means three eyes, crooked teeth, or the goofiest smile imaginable.
And sometimes those imperfect, silly treats end up being the most memorable ones of all.
So the next time you’re planning Halloween desserts, grab the marshmallows, grab the candy eyes, and let your creativity run wild.
Because around here, the rule is simple:
The weirder the monster, the better the treat.
