My family has always had the tradition that we have pizza on Christmas Eve! We had so many great traditions when I was a kid it was a blast and now that I’m an adult they only get better!

This year Matt and I made pizza dough and had everyone bring their own toppings. We made our classic Mac and Cheese BBQ Brisket Pizza! Then we made these Garlic Parmesan Breadsticks! Give these a try some time and have a Merry Christmas!

Garlic Parmesan Breadsticks

Ingredients

    • 3/4 cup warm water
    • 1 packet of active dry yeast
    • 1 tablespoon honey
    • 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
    • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1 cup parmesan cheese
    • 1/4 cup butter
    • 2 garlic cloves minced

  • Directions

  •
    1. Put warm water, active dry yeast, and honey in the stand mixer whisk together. Let stand until it’s foamy, about 10 to 15 minutes.
    2. Add in olive oil, flour, and salt, knead on low until the dough starts to pull away from the sides.
    3. Pull the dough out of the mixing bowl, grease the bowl, and then put the dough back in the bowl. Cover and set aside. Let rise for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
    4. Once the dough has risen preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
    5. Roll out the dough into a 12-inch diameter. Place on parchment paper.
    6. In a microwave-safe bowl melt the butter with the minced garlic. Brush garlic butter mixture on top of the dough. Then sprinkle parmesan cheese over the top!
    7. Bake for 15 minutes until it’s golden brown.
    8. Enjoy with some marinara!

💭 Final Thoughts

These Garlic Parmesan Breadsticks prove that comfort food doesn’t have to be complicated. They’re hearty, flavorful, and versatile enough to be a weekday staple, a family favorite, or a “just because” indulgence. Plus, they’re the kind of recipe that makes everyone smile — and isn’t that the best kind of cooking?

Here’s the thing about breadsticks — they’re never just a side dish. They’re the smell of yeast rising, the joy of butter melting, the comfort of knowing you’ve got a dish that’s both playful and nostalgic. They’re the kind of recipe that makes you feel like you’ve pulled off a dinner miracle without breaking a sweat.

And these Garlic Parmesan Breadsticks? They’re keepers. They’re savory, they’re cheesy, they’re indulgent, they’re fun. They’re the kind of recipe that makes you feel like you’ve turned pantry staples into something restaurant‑worthy. They’re hearty enough to feed a family, flexible enough to adapt to whatever toppings you’ve got hanging out in the fridge, and comforting enough to become the dish your family requests again and again.

But what I love most is how recipes like this bring us together. Food has that magic — it’s not just about eating, it’s about sharing. It’s about swapping tips, laughing over flour‑splattered counters, and building little traditions that make life tastier. It’s about the kids sneaking extra bites when you’re not looking, the friends who ask for seconds, and the quiet satisfaction of knowing you’ve created something that feels like home.

So here’s my challenge to you: make this dish, share it with your people, and then tell me your twist. Did you add red pepper flakes? Did you sneak in lemon zest? Did you double the Parmesan just because you could? (No judgment — I’d be first in line for that version.) Maybe you turned them into pizza sticks, or gave them a holiday sparkle with rosemary. Whatever your spin, I want to hear about it.

💬 Reader prompt: Should we do a “Breadstick Series” next? I’m dreaming up cheesy stuffed breadsticks, garlic knot breadsticks, and maybe even cinnamon sugar breadsticks.

Until then, may your dough be fluffy, your butter golden, your garlic fragrant, your cheese melty, and your kitchen filled with laughter, love, and second helpings. Because at the end of the day, recipes like this aren’t just about cooking — they’re about celebrating the little joys that make life delicious.

And if you take nothing else from this post, let it be this: Garlic Parmesan Breadsticks aren’t just a side dish, they’re a lifestyle. 🥖🧄🧈🧀
