DIY Snowman Family!
The Cutest Winter Craft to Brighten Your Home
Last year my mom, sister, and I wanted to have a girls night and make a Christmas craft and this is what we made! I think they are adorable, and so does my two year old. Well… he also likes to throw them. 😉 They were super simple, and a great craft if you want to chat while making it.
If there’s one winter decoration that instantly brings smiles, charm, and a little bit of frosty fun into your home, it’s a DIY Snowman Family.
Because let’s face it…
The moment snowmen appear in your holiday décor, something magical happens.
Suddenly everything feels a little cozier.
A little more playful.
A little more winter-wonderland-y.
Snowmen have that rare decorating power that works for both Christmas and the entire winter season.
They’re cheerful.
They’re whimsical.
And unlike some decorations that feel very December-specific, snowmen happily hang around through January and February too.
Which makes them one of the most versatile winter decorations ever.
But here’s where things get even better…
Instead of buying another decoration at the store, imagine creating a custom snowman family that represents your own family.
Yes.
Your family.
Mom snowman.
Dad snowman.
Kid snowmen.
Maybe even a snow-puppy if your household demands it.
And suddenly a simple decoration turns into something personal, adorable, and completely unique.
That’s exactly why this DIY Snowman Family craft has become such a favorite around here.
It’s:
• simple
• affordable
• creative
• totally customizable
• ridiculously cute
And the best part?
You don’t need to be a crafting expert to pull this off.
No complicated tools.
No expensive supplies.
Just a few basic materials, a little imagination, and a craft project that becomes one of your favorite winter decorations.
Which, if you’re part of the Lou Lou Girls community, you already know we absolutely love.
Around here we’re big fans of projects that are:
✔ easy
✔ affordable
✔ family-friendly
✔ Pinterest-worthy
And let’s be honest…
Anything that lets you turn your family members into snowmen?

Why Snowman Decorations Never Go Out of Style
Snowmen have been a staple of winter decorating for generations.
And there’s a reason they never go out of style.
They’re playful.
They’re nostalgic.
And they instantly capture the spirit of winter.
Unlike Santa decorations, which tend to disappear after Christmas, snowmen stay relevant all winter long.
Which means when you decorate with snowmen, your house still feels festive even after the holiday decorations come down.
Lou Lou Girls reader moment:
Are you someone who takes down all Christmas décor on December 26th…
Or do you keep the winter decorations up until February?
We’re firmly on Team Cozy Winter Décor over here.
Why DIY Decorations Feel Extra Special
There’s something about handmade decorations that just feels different.
Store-bought decorations are lovely, of course.
But DIY decorations carry memories.
They remind you of:
• craft nights
• family laughter
• glue stick disasters
• kids proudly showing off their creations
And sometimes those slightly imperfect handmade decorations become the most cherished ones in your home.
Because they represent time spent together.
Which is what the holidays are really about.
What Makes a Snowman Family Craft So Fun
This project takes the classic snowman decoration and gives it a personal twist.
Instead of one snowman…
You create an entire snowman family.
Each one can represent a member of your household.
Different sizes can represent parents and kids.
Different scarves, hats, and accessories make each snowman unique.
You can even add names.
Or inside jokes.
Or little details that represent hobbies.
Suddenly the decoration becomes your family story in snowman form.
And honestly?
That’s pretty adorable.

Families grow and change, and your snowman family can grow with it.
Lou Lou Girls reader question:
If you made a snowman family, how many snowmen would you need?
Perfect Places to Display Your Snowman Family

Great display spots include:
• the fireplace mantel
• an entryway table
• a kitchen counter
• a holiday shelf display
Anywhere people can admire them.
Because trust us…
Visitors will definitely comment on them.
Why Winter Crafts Are Perfect for Cozy Nights
There’s something magical about winter crafting.
Outside it’s cold.
Inside the house is warm.
Maybe a movie is playing.
Hot chocolate is nearby.
And everyone is gathered around the table creating something together.
Those are the moments that become memories.
And crafts like this DIY Snowman Family are perfect for those cozy winter evenings.
Creative Variations to Try
Want to mix things up?
Here are some fun twists on the classic snowman family.
Farmhouse Snowmen
Use distressed white paint and neutral scarves.
Glitter Snowmen
Add sparkle paint or glitter accents.
Rustic Wood Snowmen
Leave some wood visible for a natural look.
Colorful Snowmen
Use bright scarves and painted hats.
Why Kids Love This Craft
Kids love this project because it feels like building characters.
Each snowman becomes its own little personality.
Kids can decide:
• who gets which scarf
• who wears a hat
• which snowman represents them
And they love seeing the finished display.
Plus, crafting together gives kids the chance to be creative without screens.
Which parents everywhere appreciate.
Budget-Friendly Holiday Decorating
Holiday decorating can get expensive fast.
But DIY decorations like this snowman family keep things affordable.
Most supplies cost only a few dollars.
And the finished result looks just as charming as store-bought décor.
Sometimes even better.
Because it’s personal.
The Joy of Handmade Winter Decor
Handmade decorations bring warmth into a home in a way that store-bought ones simply can’t.
They reflect creativity.
They hold memories.
They remind us that the holidays aren’t about perfection.
They’re about connection.
And when you create something like a DIY Snowman Family, you’re not just making a decoration.
You’re creating a little piece of winter joy.
