Three Layers of Unapologetic Indulgence
Listen up, sugar fiends—today we’re rolling out the red carpet for a dessert that’s three-tiered, three-times as decadent, and three times harder to resist than a rom-com marathon. Imagine a buttery shortbread base so tender it practically melts at the slightest touch, a gooey caramel layer that’s basically liquid gold, and a silky milk chocolate crown that turns every bite into a dance party for your taste buds.
If you’ve ever thought, “Maybe one layer of fabulousness just isn’t enough,” congratulations—you’ve just met your new kitchen obsession. These Millionaire Shortbread Bars pack more personality than your favorite streaming drama and more flair than a disco ball. Ready to make the magic happen?
My young women love their treats! Who does not love a Twix candy bar?! Everyone loves them. Simply everyone. Matt and I decided that these would be a great treat for the girls and mothers.

Caramel

Directions: Layers of Love
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang for easy removal.
- In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy—about 3 minutes with an electric mixer.
- Mix in vanilla. Add flour and salt, stirring just until the dough forms. Press the dough evenly into the prepared pan, creating a smooth, compact layer.
- Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
- Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the stick of butter. Stir in sweetened condensed milk, brown sugar, and Karo syrup. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat and cook, stirring constantly, for 4–5 minutes until thickened to a pourable caramel.
- Pour caramel over the warm shortbread base, spreading it evenly. Let it rest at room temperature for 10 minutes, then chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to set.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate chips and shortening. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth and glossy.
- Pour the chocolate over the chilled caramel layer, spreading it into an even layer. Refrigerate for another 30 minutes, or until the chocolate is firm.
- Remove the bar from the pan using the parchment overhang. Place on a cutting board and slice into 24 squares.
Serve immediately—just try not to inhale them all at once.

Cooking Tips: Elevate Your Dessert Game
- Use Room-Temp Butter for Shortbread
Softened butter gives you a tender, pillowy shortbread that practically dissolves on your tongue. Cold butter? It’s a no-go for this recipe. - Stir Caramel with Patience
Caramel can singe faster than your playlist on shuffle. Keep the heat moderate and stir constantly so nothing sticks or burns. - Chill Between Layers
Rushing from warm shortbread to hot caramel to melted chocolate is a recipe for meltdowns—both edible and emotional. Give each layer its moment to set. - Quality Chocolate Matters
Don’t skimp on chocolate chips. Guittard or a comparable high-quality brand give you that smooth, creamy finish instead of a grainy flop. - Even Spreading = Even Bars
Use an offset spatula for the caramel and chocolate layers to achieve perfectly flat, professional-looking bars.

Recipe Variations: Mix It Up, Darling
- Salted Caramel Twist
Sprinkle flaky sea salt over the caramel layer before adding chocolate. The sweet-salty combo is pure sorcery. - Nutty Road
Press chopped pecans or almonds into the caramel layer for a satisfying crunch and a little nuttiness. - Dark Chocolate Drama
Swap milk chocolate for dark chocolate (70% cacao or higher). It adds depth and tames some of that sugar rush. - Coconut Dream
After the chocolate sets, sprinkle toasted shredded coconut on top. Tropical vibes incoming. - Raspberry Ripple
Drizzle warmed raspberry jam over the chocolate layer and swirl it gently with a toothpick before chilling.

I think I know what I'm bringing to my next potluck! I've found for you the one person who doesn't like Twix: my daughter M. She can't stand caramel. The one time she sent something back in a restaurant was when she received a bowl of ice cream with caramel sauce as a garnish. She quite literally gagged at the sight.
