💬 Reader prompt: Are you a “pile it high with toppings” taco person or a “keep it simple so I can eat more” taco person?
I guess we are on a taco kick this week! I mean, can you ever have too many tacos? Am I right?!? It’s so funny because when I first was married all we made was hamburger tacos, which is still my husband’s favorite. Don’t get me wrong, they are good but I think it reminds him of being a kid.
I seriously love these tacos! The crispy taco shell, flavorful chicken and it’s topped with a zesty sweet slaw. It really hit it’s mark! I wanted to lick the plate!
BONUS: It’s a really quick recipe and easy to make! I love that these would be so perfect for any party, and I swear kids will eat their dinner better when you present it in mini sizes.

Chicken Wonton Tacos
Ingredients
- Chicken
- 2 chicken thighs, finely diced
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp. soy sauce
- 2 to 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp minced ginger
- Asian-inspired slaw
- 1 small bag coleslaw
- 4 to 6 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp. soy sauce
- 1 tbsp. honey
- For tacos + toppings
- 16 Wonton wrappers
- Sweet chili sauce
- Chopped cilantro, optional
- Sesame seeds
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375 F. Spray wonton wrappers with cooking spray or brush with a bit of olive oil, then drape over the side of a 9×13 baking dish ( if you have a lip on your baking dish, it will give your shells a bigger opening, a little easier to fill). Bake for 7-8 minutes, watching closely closely so they don't burn.
Mix diced raw chicken in a large bowl with sesame oil, soy sauce, garlic and ginger. Heat a large skillet over high heat and sauté chicken for 7-8 minutes, tossing frequently until cooked through.
Meanwhile, mix ingredients for coleslaw together in a large bowl.
Add chicken mixture to wonton shells, then top with coleslaw, You can place sweet chili sauce in a small bowl for dipping and sprinkle with cilantro and sesame seeds. Serve and enjoy!

👩🍳 Cooking Tips for Wonton Taco Success
- Don’t overfill the shells — they’re sturdy but delicate; too much filling = taco tragedy.
- Marinate for flavor — even 15 minutes makes a difference with the chicken.
- Crisp is key — bake wontons until golden; soggy shells are a no‑go.
- Serve immediately — assemble right before eating to keep shells crunchy.
- Sweet chili sauce = magic — but sriracha mayo is a fun swap if you like heat.

🎨 Recipe Variations
- Shrimp Swap — use sautéed shrimp instead of chicken.
- Veggie Delight — fill with grilled veggies and tofu.
- Spicy Peanut — drizzle with peanut sauce instead of sweet chili.
- Korean BBQ — swap soy sauce for gochujang marinade.
- Breakfast Twist — scrambled eggs, bacon, and slaw for brunch tacos.
🧒 Kid Tips
- Let kids help fill the shells — they’ll love the “mini taco” vibe.
- Keep the slaw mild or serve it on the side for picky eaters.
- Offer dipping sauces — kids love to dunk.
- Use ground chicken if dicing is too fussy for little helpers.
💬 Reader prompt: Parents — do your kids eat tacos neatly or turn them into a deconstructed plate?

💬 Reader prompt: If you could turn any appetizer into a taco, what would it be?
Some tacos are just tacos. These Chicken Wonton Tacos? They’re a party in every bite. They’re the sound of crispy shells cracking, the smell of garlic and ginger sizzling in the pan, and the joy of piling on toppings until you can barely pick them up.
I love that they’re endlessly adaptable — you can make them spicy, sweet, veggie‑packed, or protein‑loaded. They’re forgiving, too; even if your wonton shells aren’t perfectly shaped, they’ll still taste amazing. And they’re the kind of recipe that makes people linger at the table, reaching for “just one more.”
So here’s my challenge: make them, share them, and tag your creations with #WontonTacoParty so we can all drool together, swap ideas, and maybe even inspire the next great taco trend. Because food is better when it’s shared — and these are too good to keep to yourself.
