Candy Cane Peppermint Oreos
The Holiday Cookie That Looks Fancy, Tastes Like Christmas, and Makes People Ask, “Wait… YOU made these?!”
Let’s get one thing straight: holiday baking should be joyful, not stressful. It should feel festive, indulgent, and a little bit magical—without requiring twelve specialty ingredients or three hours of uninterrupted silence. That’s exactly where these Candy Cane Peppermint Oreos come in. They are bold, beautiful, bakery-style sandwich cookies that look like you worked very hard… while secretly being ridiculously easy to make.
These cookies start with a rich, devil’s food cake mix base that bakes up soft, fudgy, and perfectly chewy—no chilling, no fuss. Sandwiched between them is a peppermint-packed cream cheese frosting loaded with crushed candy canes for that unmistakable holiday crunch. Every bite delivers chocolatey depth, creamy sweetness, and bright peppermint flavor that screams December in the best possible way.
What makes this recipe a Lou Lou Girls favorite is how perfectly it fits into real life during the holidays. You can make the cookies ahead. You can make the frosting ahead. You can assemble them early or last-minute. They travel well, store beautifully, and look stunning stacked on a platter, tucked into treat boxes, or wrapped up as edible gifts.
These are the cookies people gravitate toward. The ones that disappear first. The ones someone sneaks into a napkin “for later.” The ones that become requested every December once you make them once.

👉 Are you a peppermint superfan or a “just enough mint” person?
Either way—this recipe has you covered.
They’re festive without being overwhelming. Sweet without being cloying. And let’s be honest—anything with crushed candy canes automatically feels like a holiday win.
My husband has obsessed with finding Candy Cane Peppermint Oreos for the last month. Every store we go to, we have to check to see if they have them.
We have been looking everywhere and no one has them. We look online and everyone is out of stock, but you can buy them from $20 on amazon.com.
Since these are a seasonal item and they are only sold during Christmas time, time is of the essence. Yet we have failed over and over again.
So last week we made our own, you should try this recipe it was really good everyone loved them. The homemade Oreo I have to give credit to one of my best buds Blaire, she is the one who taught me to make them.
Candy Cane Peppermint Oreos
Oreo Cookie
2 boxes of Devils Food cake
4 eggs
2 Sticks of softened butter – not melted (sometimes I do half butter and half butter-flavored Crisco to make puffier cookies)
1 teaspoon of baking powder
Candy Cane Peppermint Oreos
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
I put all ingredients in the stand mixer with the batter attachment mix it until it seems mixed well. Do not over mix the batter. Then take about a tablespoon of dough and roll into a ball, separate them about 3 inches apart on the non greased cookie sheet. Put in the oven for 8-10 minutes.
Peppermint Icing
1 stick of butter
1 8 oz. pack of cream cheese
1 tsp of vanilla extract
3-4 cups of powder sugar
36 peppermint candy canes
Put butter, cream cheese, and vanilla in the stand mixer until it is mixed well. We used our ninja food processor to crush the candy canes until they were powder and diced pieces. Then slowly add powdered sugar and candy canes one cup at a time until to desired flavor or texture.
We started out with only 20 candy canes but Matt said it wasn’t pepperminty enough for him so he just kept grinding up more candy canes. Until he said “I guess it’s minty enough, next time use extract,” so if you like it super minty then use some peppermint extract.

💬 Final Thoughts
These Candy Cane Peppermint Oreos are festive without being fussy, indulgent without being complicated, and joyful in a way that feels exactly right for the holidays. They’re the kind of treat that makes baking feel fun again.
There’s something special about holiday recipes that come back year after year—the ones that feel familiar, comforting, and a little bit magical every single time. These Candy Cane Peppermint Oreos fall squarely into that category. They’re bold enough to stand out on a crowded dessert table and cozy enough to feel right at home in your kitchen.
This is the kind of recipe that becomes tradition without trying. The one people ask about before December even starts. The one you make “just for fun” and end up doubling because they disappear faster than expected. And honestly, that’s the best kind of recipe to have in your back pocket.
They remind us that holiday baking doesn’t have to be complicated to be special. Sometimes it’s about leaning into flavors we love, keeping things simple, and letting joy lead the way. A good cookie can do that—it can slow you down, bring people together, and turn an ordinary day into something worth remembering.
So whether you’re baking for a party, a gift exchange, or just because your kitchen needs to smell like Christmas, these Candy Cane Peppermint Oreos are ready for the job. Make them once, and don’t be surprised when they become part of your holiday rhythm.
From our Lou Lou Girls kitchen to yours—may your cookies be soft, your frosting be fluffy, and your candy canes always crushed just right. 🎄🍪✨
