3 Easy Tips to Organize Winter Clothes

Let’s talk about winter clothes — specifically, the hats, gloves, scarves, boots, snow pants, and mystery mittens that somehow multiply the moment the temperature drops below 40 degrees. You know exactly what I mean. One day your entryway is clean and peaceful, and the next day it looks like a snow‑day tornado ripped through your home and left behind 17 gloves (none of which match), three hats your kids swear aren’t theirs, and a pair of boots that may or may not belong to the neighbor.

Winter gear is a whole personality. It’s bulky. It’s everywhere. It’s always damp. It never stays where you put it. And it somehow disappears the moment you actually need it.

And listen — we’re moms. We’re busy. We’re juggling school drop‑offs, grocery runs, work, laundry, and the emotional stability of tiny humans who suddenly “hate” the coat they loved yesterday. We do not have time to spend 20 minutes every morning searching for a missing glove while our toddler licks the window and our teenager insists they don’t need a coat because they’re “not even cold.”

That’s why winter clothing organization needs to be: ✨ Simple ✨ Sustainable ✨ Kid‑friendly ✨ Fast ✨ Low‑maintenance ✨ And preferably not dependent on a color‑coded system that only works on Pinterest

Enter: 3 Easy Tips to Organize Winter Clothes — the mom‑tested, kid‑approved, sanity‑saving system that keeps winter gear in check without requiring a full‑blown home makeover or a trip to The Container Store that ends with you spending $200 on baskets you didn’t need.

These tips are perfect for:

  • Busy families
  • Small spaces
  • Big families
  • Forgetful kids
  • Moms who are DONE losing gloves
  • Anyone who wants winter mornings to feel less like a scavenger hunt

Plus, we’re sprinkling in those playful asides and community‑building prompts that make your readers feel like they’re hanging out in your mudroom, laughing at the chaos and swapping mom hacks.

So grab your bins, your labels, and your “I’m ready to get my life together” energy — because winter organization is about to get a whole lot easier.

Winter is just around the corner and I don’t know about you, but one thing that really stresses me out is the thought of keeping track of all my kids winter clothes. My three-year-old is super excited for the snow so I want to do everything in my power to keep getting him dressed easy, because we all know it usually takes longer to get a kid ready for the snow then they play in it. These are my top three tips to help keep your winter clothes organized and ready to go!

  1. Have a spot for each person’s snow clothes. This helps you keep track of everything, as well as quickly grab what you need. When each person has a spot you can easily assess what is put away or what you need to search for.

2. Less is more. When I first became a mom, I thought I needed multiples of everything so that if I lost something, it wouldn’t be a big deal. I quickly found that I lost things more frequently because I didn’t track things down that were missing. I’ve learned that if each person just has one of each item (at least in their spot) it is much easier to keep track of what is missing and what is not.

3. Teach your kids to help clean up. Yeah, yeah, yeah, easier said then done, I know! But if your kids each have their own designated spot for their winter clothes and know you expect them to put their snow clothes back there, they’ll be more likely to do it. Even my 18 month old knows his spot and can (sometimes) put his stuff away!

❄️ BONUS TIPS (BECAUSE YOU KNOW WE CAN’T STOP AT THREE)

Use labels

Words, pictures, colors — whatever helps your kids know what goes where.

Use vertical space

Hooks, over‑the‑door organizers, wall racks — winter gear is bulky, so get it off the floor.

Drying racks are your friend

Wet gloves are the enemy of peaceful mornings.

Keep a “lost and found” bin

Because you KNOW random gloves will appear out of nowhere.

Rotate seasonal gear

Put away summer hats and swimsuits so winter gear has room to breathe.

🧊 WINTER GEAR STORAGE IDEAS

1. Mudroom Cubbies

Classic. Clean. Pinterest‑worthy.

2. Dollar Store Bins

Cheap. Colorful. Effective.

3. Over‑the‑Door Shoe Organizer

Each pocket = one winter item. Genius.

4. Laundry Room Hooks

Perfect for drying wet gear.

5. Under‑Bench Baskets

Hidden storage for the win.
