Red Velvet Brownies

Red velvet has always been one of my most favorite cakes! Matt knows how much I love red velvet and so he came up with this brownie recipe that knocked my socks off!

We took these over for Cooper’s birthday and they were a hit, next to Amber’s awesome birthday cake she made for Coop! These brownies rock, give them a try!

Red Velvet Brownies

Ingredients

brownie

  • 4 oz. bittersweet chocolate baking bar, chopped
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/8 teaspoon table salt
  • 1 oz. red velvet food coloring

frosting

  • 8 oz. cream cheese
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1 bag of powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon whipping cream
  • Chocolate shavings (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a 9×9 pan with parchment paper.
  2. Microwave the butter and chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl at high for 30 sec, stir and repeat until chocolate is melted. Allow cooling slightly.
  3. Add the sugar. Then add one egg at a time, until well blended.  Then add the vanilla.
  4. In a separate bowl sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Slowly add in the dry ingredients to the butter mixture until well blended.  Add in the food coloring until it’s mixed throughout.
  6. Pour into the 9-inch pan. Bake for 45 to 48 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely on a wire rack, about 20 minutes.
  7. While the brownie cools, in a bowl whisk together all the ingredients for the frosting! Once the brownie is cool, spread over the top of the brownie, and then you can add chocolate shavings for looks!
