Introducing Little Miss Ivie Birth Story

Photos taken by Megan Leech Photography We’ve had a big change in our family! We are now a family of 6! Say Wha?! I can’t believe it myself. I feel old, mostly because I’m exhausted, but also because having 4 kids means I’ve got a lot of responsibilities. It’s crazy, but I love it.

And my other kids LOVE her so much already, it’s been really really fun. I was really hoping to go into labor on my own, since I never have, but unfortunately, I didn’t. I went in to my 39 week appointment hoping that I had progressed, but instead we discovered that my blood pressure was high.

My doctor suggested that I be induced the next day, and I was pretty tired of being pregnant so I agreed. He had been monitoring pretty closely anyway because I was planning a VBAC and the bigger the baby gets, the higher the risk is. At the end of the day, I just wanted a healthy happy baby, so an induced labor it was.

We went in to the hospital at 7 AM and, after 4 attempts, they finally got my IV started. I have really impossible veins, and always have, so it’s pretty much the worst anytime I have to get poked.

The contractions were bearable, and about 1 hour later the doctor came to break my water. I was still doing really well for a good hour, and then they offered me my epidural. That’s when it got pretty intense! The epidural only numbed the left side of my body, and so, when they upped my pitocin, the pain got really bad.

I was trying to be tough, but my labor went really fast after that, and I was freaking out a little because I could definitely feel the contractions. The whole labor lasted only 4 hours from start to finish, and the last hour and a half was the only super painful part, so I sucked it up and pushed that babe out as fast as I could.

Ivie was born in the early afternoon, and was 7 lbs 6 oz. She had the chubbiest little cheeks, and a little button mouth like her momma. She looks almost exactly like my other babies, except Gracie. Of course, Gracie was only 4 lbs 3 oz. You can read her birth story here.

No one could ever prepare you for the immense feeling of joy that you have after you have a baby. The Spirit is so strong in the room, and it’s impossible not to acknowledge that these little babies come straight from a Heavenly Father that loves us so much. What an incredible experience.
