Stone Drug Burgers
The Old-School, No-Nonsense, “Why Are These So Good?!” Burger

Let’s clear something up right now: not all burgers are created equal. Some are dry. Some are bland. Some are trying way too hard with fancy toppings when the patty itself tastes like regret. And then there are these burgers—the kind that don’t need gimmicks, brioche buns, or a three-paragraph menu description.
S.F. Stone Drug Burgers are classic, deeply seasoned, comfort-food burgers that focus on what actually matters:
✔ juicy texture
✔ bold, savory flavor
✔ simple ingredients that work together instead of competing
This is the kind of burger that tastes like backyard cookouts, diner counters, and “just one more bite” energy. It’s old-school in the best way—because when a recipe works, it doesn’t need reinventing. It just needs to be shared, cooked properly, and respected.
These burgers are:
-
Perfect for grilling or stovetop
-
Affordable and pantry-friendly
-
Great for feeding a crowd
-
Kid-approved and adult-loved
-
Easy to prep ahead
And let’s be honest—this is the kind of recipe that becomes part of your rotation. The one you don’t even need to look up after a while. The one people ask about. The one that makes you burger person.

For those of you who are not from Spanish Fork, Stone Drug is a little Drug Store on Main Street. It has been there forever. My aunt Kim worked there and always makes their awesome hamburgers! They are super good and very different. So I asked her to send me her recipe. She then told me that everyone who worked there would put their own little twist on the burgers, well here is hers. We made them last night and they are pretty much incredible!!! Thanks Kim for the recipe!!
Here is her email to me:
Cassie,
When I worked there, we all had our own little ‘tweak’ that we would add to this recipe. When I make it, I make about 10 lbs and use it for patties and meatballs. I bake the meatballs and then put them in the freezer for a ready-to-go meal of spaghetti and meatballs or use them with beef stroganoff. (It’s messy, so if I’m going to get all gooey, I want to make several meals at once so it is worth the hamburger squishing!)
S.F. STONE DRUG BURGERS
From the Kitchen of: Kim
Sorensen
1 lb raw ground beef (lean)
1 c. bread crumbs or ½ pkg of
crushed saltines
1 egg
1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. or more salt
½ tsp. pepper
½ tsp. garlic salt
¼ c. fresh onions chopped or 3
Tbsp. dry onions.
1 Squirt of mustard (if desired)
1 tsp. season-all (if desired)
Stone Drug Burgers
🧑🍳 Directions
-
In a large bowl, add the ground beef, breaking it up gently with your hands.
-
Sprinkle in the bread crumbs or crushed saltines—this helps lock in moisture and gives the burgers that perfect bite.
-
Add the egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, garlic salt, onions, and optional mustard and Season-All.
-
Using clean hands, mix just until combined. Do not overmix—tough burgers are nobody’s dream.
-
Form the mixture into evenly sized patties (about 4–6, depending on thickness preference).
-
Cook on a grill over medium heat or in a skillet on the stovetop, about 4–5 minutes per side, or until cooked through.
-
Add cheese during the last minute if desired.
-
Remove from heat and let rest for 2–3 minutes before serving.
Pause. Admire. Resist the urge to immediately bite your tongue because you’re impatient. 😅

My brothers family lives in Spanish Fork and we went last summer to visit and take the kids to the Salt Lake temple. It was so much fun. I am wishing we had stopped at that drug store now. I'll have to put it on my "To Do" list the next time we are in town, and in the meantime, I think I'll give these a try.
They are good! Something different! Thanks for the comment!
