Red velvet has always been one of my most favorite cakes! Matt knows how much I love red velvet and so he came up with this brownie recipe that knocked my socks off!
We took these over for Cooper’s birthday and they were a hit, next to Amber’s awesome birthday cake she made for Coop! These brownies rock, give them a try!

Red Velvet Brownies
Ingredients
brownie
- 4 oz. bittersweet chocolate baking bar, chopped
- 3/4 cup butter
- 2 cups of sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/8 teaspoon table salt
- 1 oz. red velvet food coloring
frosting
- 8 oz. cream cheese
- 1 stick of butter
- 1 bag of powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 tablespoon whipping cream
- Chocolate shavings (optional)
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a 9×9 pan with parchment paper.
- Microwave the butter and chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl at high for 30 sec, stir and repeat until chocolate is melted. Allow cooling slightly.
- Add the sugar. Then add one egg at a time, until well blended. Then add the vanilla.
- In a separate bowl sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Slowly add in the dry ingredients to the butter mixture until well blended. Add in the food coloring until it’s mixed throughout.
- Pour into the 9-inch pan. Bake for 45 to 48 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely on a wire rack, about 20 minutes.
- While the brownie cools, in a bowl whisk together all the ingredients for the frosting! Once the brownie is cool, spread over the top of the brownie, and then you can add chocolate shavings for looks!

💭 Final Thoughts
These Red Velvet Brownies prove that comfort food doesn’t have to be complicated. They’re hearty, flavorful, and versatile enough to be a holiday staple, a family favorite, or a “just because” indulgence. Plus, they’re the kind of recipe that makes everyone smile — and isn’t that the best kind of baking?
Here’s the thing about brownies — they’re never just dessert. They’re the smell of chocolate melting, the joy of frosting swirling, the comfort of knowing you’ve got a dish that’s both playful and nostalgic. They’re the kind of recipe that makes you feel like you’ve pulled off a holiday miracle without breaking a sweat.
And these Red Velvet Brownies? They’re keepers. They’re sweet, they’re fudgy, they’re indulgent, they’re fun. They’re the kind of recipe that makes you feel like you’ve turned pantry staples into something bakery‑worthy. They’re hearty enough to feed a family, flexible enough to adapt to whatever toppings you’ve got hanging out in the fridge, and comforting enough to become the dish your family requests again and again.
But what I love most is how recipes like this bring us together. Food has that magic — it’s not just about eating, it’s about sharing. It’s about swapping tips, laughing over frosting‑splattered counters, and building little traditions that make life tastier. It’s about the kids sneaking extra bites when you’re not looking, the friends who ask for seconds, and the quiet satisfaction of knowing you’ve created something that feels like home.
So here’s my challenge to you: make this dish, share it with your people, and then tell me your twist. Did you add cayenne? Did you sneak in orange zest? Did you double the frosting just because you could? (No judgment — I’d be first in line for that version.) Maybe you turned them into crepes for brunch, or gave them a holiday glow with sugared cranberries. Whatever your spin, I want to hear about it.
💬 Reader prompt: Should we do a “Brownie Glow Series” next? I’m dreaming up cheesecake brownies, peanut butter swirl brownies, and maybe even s’mores brownies.
Until then, may your chocolate be melty, your frosting fluffy, your food coloring dramatic, your butter golden, and your kitchen filled with laughter, love, and second helpings. Because at the end of the day, recipes like this aren’t just about baking — they’re about celebrating the little joys that make life delicious.
And if you take nothing else from this post, let it be this: Red Velvet Brownies aren’t just dessert, they’re a lifestyle. 🍫❤️✨
