Honey Oat Wheat Rolls
🍯 Honey Oat Wheat Rolls — Soft, Sweet, and Totally Irresistible
This bread could give you a pep talk, these rolls would be your biggest cheerleaders.

Some breads are plain. Some breads are fussy. And then there are Honey Oat Wheat Rolls — the golden, fluffy, slightly sweet rolls that make every meal feel like a celebration. They’re hearty from the whole wheat flour, soft from the milk and butter, and kissed with honey for just the right touch of sweetness.
These rolls are the kind of recipe that makes your kitchen smell like a bakery, your table look like a magazine spread, and your family ask, “Wait, did you really make these from scratch?” (Yes. Yes, you did.)
💬 Reader prompt: Are you a “bread with dinner” person, or do you sneak rolls as snacks all day long?
I used to love the Honey Oat Wheat bread at Subway and I wanted to try and recreate it. This is not exactly the same but it is very good! To make it a little more airy, I did add some white flour. I’m planning to try and make a loaf of bread in the future and see how it goes. These turned out great, give them a try!

Honey Oat Wheat Rolls
Ingredients
- 1 package active dry yeast
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 2 c. milk, scalded then cooled to room temperature
- 4 Tbsp. melted butter, slightly cooled
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 3 1/2 c. Whole Wheat flour
- 2 to 3 c. Bread Flour
- 1/2 c. Old Fashioned Rolled Oats
- 2 eggs
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. honey

Honey Oat Wheat Rolls
Directions
- In a mixing bowl, combine yeast, warm water, and 1 Tbsp. sugar. Let the yeast get bubbly.
- Place milk in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil and remove from heat. Allow cooling slightly.
- Melt the butter in the microwave and set aside.
- Add the sugar, honey, milk, and 3 1/2 c. flour to the yeast mixture. Beat together for two minutes.
- Add butter, eggs, and salt. Stir well.
- Add the rest of the flour and oats a half a cup at a time until the dough begins to separate from the sides of the bowl. Let it rest for 3-5 minutes.
- Knead the dough in the bowl for 5 minutes. If the dough seems sticky to you add a tablespoon of flour at a time until it reaches a good consistency.
- Remove dough from the bowl and grease the inside of the bowl.
- Place the dough back in the bowl and flip it around till the entire outside is nice and shiny with the oil.
- Loosely cover the bowl with plastic wrap and allow the dough to double in size, which takes a little over an hour and sometimes longer in my cold house.
- Once the dough has doubled, smash it down with your fists for about a minute.
- Weigh dough into 2 to 2 1/2 oz. and shape into rolls.
- Place the dough on a greased baking sheet and cover lightly with plastic wrap. Put in the fridge overnight and then pull out 2 hours before baking. Or you can wait 2 hours and then bake.
Bake at 375 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes, or until golden brown. Immediately rub the tops with a little bit of butter. Enjoy!

These Honey Oat Wheat Rolls are proof that homemade bread doesn’t have to be intimidating. With a little patience and a lot of love, you get rolls that are soft, golden, and just sweet enough to make every meal feel special.
They’re also endlessly adaptable. You can keep them classic, go cheesy, or even turn them into breakfast sandwiches. And because they freeze well, you can always have a stash ready for busy nights.
Here’s the thing about homemade rolls — they’re more than just bread. They’re comfort, tradition, and connection all baked into one pan. They’re the smell of honey and butter filling your kitchen, the sight of golden rolls rising in the oven, and the sound of happy chatter as everyone reaches for seconds.
And this honey oat version? It’s a little extra special. It’s hearty, it’s sweet, and it’s guaranteed to make you the star of any dinner table.
So here’s my challenge to you: bake them, share them, and tell me your twist. Did you go cheesy? Did you sneak in herbs? Did you eat one straight from the pan before serving? (No judgment — I’ve been there.) Snap a pic, post it, and tag it so we can all drool together.
💬 Reader prompt: Should we do a “Homemade Bread Series” next? I’m dreaming up garlic knots, cheesy focaccia, and maybe even a braided challah.
