Coconut Macaroons
🥥 Coconut Macaroons: The Sweet Treat That’s Basically a Hug in Cookie Form

If sunshine had a flavor, it would be these Coconut Macaroons. They’re chewy, golden, dipped in chocolate, and just the right amount of indulgent. Basically, they’re the cookie equivalent of a beach vacation—without the sand in your snack.
Whether you’re baking for a party, sneaking a treat after bedtime, or bribing your kids to clean their rooms (no judgment), these macaroons are your new go-to. They’re easy, crowd-pleasing, and just fancy enough to make you feel like a domestic goddess.
I apparently didn’t know the difference between macaroons and macarons. In my defense when you google macaroon, both come up. I didn’t even know about this coconut option until a couple weeks ago and I wanted to try to make them, and let me tell you they are way way easier to make then French Macarons.
I was dying when I was thinking about making them because last time I tried to make macarons they failed miserably. I’m going to try and make my own recipe next week and see if I can make my macaron dreams come true. We’ll see how that goes. Anyways, this was great and easy and delicious!

Coconut Macaroons
🧾 Ingredients You’ll Need (a.k.a. Your Sweet Squad)
• 14 oz bag sweetened, flaked coconut – Tropical vibes in every bite.
• 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk – Leave about 2 tablespoons in the can (because we’re rebels like that).
• 1 tsp vanilla extract – Adds warmth and depth.
• 2 egg whites – Whipped to fluffy perfection.
• ½ tsp salt – Balances the sweetness.
• 1½ cups semisweet chocolate chips – Because chocolate-dipped = instant upgrade.

Coconut Macaroons
🔥 Directions: From Pantry to Paradise
1. Preheat oven to 325°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
2. Mix coconut and sweetened condensed milk (minus those 2 rebellious tablespoons) in a large bowl. Stir in vanilla.
3. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites and salt until soft peaks form. You’re looking for fluffy, not stiff.
4. Gently fold egg whites into the coconut mixture. Don’t overmix—treat it like a delicate little cloud.
5. Scoop 2-tablespoon mounds onto your baking sheets. Leave a little space between each one.
6. Bake for 25 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the tops are lightly toasted.
7. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Resist the urge to nibble (or don’t—we won’t tell).
8. Melt chocolate chips in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each round.
9. Dip cooled macaroons into the melted chocolate. Place on parchment paper and chill in the fridge until set.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a coconut macaroon made of?
Flour: All-purpose flour gives the cookies structure. Salt: A pinch of salt enhances the overall flavor, but it won’t make the macaroons taste salty. Sweetened condensed milk: A 14-ounce can of sweetened condensed milk is the decadent secret ingredient.
What is a macaron vs macaroon?
A macaron is a meringue-based sandwich cookie that is tinted with food coloring. A macaroon is a drop cookie made with shredded coconut. The preparation for these two cookies is also very different. Macarons require multiple steps and painstaking precision, while a batch of coconut macaroons is very easy to prepare.
Why are macarons such a big deal?
A more sophisticated dessert: macarons are considered a more sophisticated dessert due to their high-end ingredients and delicate preparation process. The delicate texture of macarons – a crispy shell with a soft, chewy interior – makes them a unique and enjoyable dessert.
🧠 Cooking Tips from Your Cookie Coach
Let’s make these macaroons the best they can be:
- Don’t skip the soft peaks. Whipping the egg whites gives these cookies their signature lightness.
- Use a cookie scoop. It keeps the macaroons uniform and helps them bake evenly.
- Chill the dough for 10 minutes before scooping if it feels too sticky.
- Use high-quality chocolate chips. They melt smoother and taste richer.
- Double dip for drama. Drizzle extra chocolate on top for bakery-style flair

👶 Kid Tips: How to Win Over Tiny Tastebuds
These cookies are naturally kid-approved, but here’s how to make them even more irresistible:
- Let kids help scoop. It’s sticky fun and builds kitchen confidence.
- Use mini chocolate chips. Easier for little hands to stir and snack.
- Make it a dipping station. Set up bowls of melted chocolate, sprinkles, and crushed nuts for DIY decorating.
- Rename them! “Snowball Cookies” or “Chocolate Coconut Clouds” sound way more magical.
Bonus: They’re nut-free and gluten-free (if your chocolate chips are safe), so they’re great for school treats.
🛒 Grocery Hacks: Save Time, Save Money
Let’s make this sweet treat budget-friendly and stress-free:
- Buy coconut in bulk. It’s cheaper and great for granola, smoothies, and baking.
- Use store-brand condensed milk. It’s just as sweet and creamy.
- Egg whites in a carton work if you don’t want to separate eggs.
- Chocolate chips go on sale often. Stock up and freeze them!
- Vanilla extract = splurge alert. Try vanilla bean paste or imitation vanilla for a budget swap.
