This year I really wanted to create a random acts of kindness advent calendar to countdown to Christmas, but I found an even better Christ Centered Christmas Countdown that I want to share with you! Mormon.org is hosting worldwide day of service on December first, and encouraging people to Light the World throughout this Christmas season by resolving to do the things that Christ did.
On their website they have created an amazing calendar that outlines each day with something Christ did, like healed the sick or taught us to pray. Each day lists something that he did, and ideas for how you can easily emulate that action so that you can help light the world.
The goal is to help you plan your Christmas activities in such a way that every day leading up to Christmas you do something to emulate Christ example.
I think this is so awesome and I love that it’s more than just random acts of kindness, it’s actually attributes and actions of Christ that we can continue to do even after Christmas.
So here’s what we did.
In my family growing up we had a Christmas tradition where we drew names and whoever’s name you had, you did service for them anonymously. Every time you did an act of service, you got to put a piece of straw in baby Jesus’s manger, so that it would be soft for him on Christmas day.
I wanted to introduce that tradition to my family this year, so that is what we did to kickoff of the 25 days of service. It’s kind of combining the December 1st worldwide day of service and the December 24 activity which is that Jesus cared for his loved ones. We went around and did acts of service for Daddy, like cleaned his fourwheeler, organized the mudroom that he built for us, and filled up his gas tank!
Be sure to checkout mormon.org to see all the ideas they have and help us #LIGHTtheWORLD!

What a great idea! I love doing service projects with kids this time of the year-it sets a wonderful example.
I love these ideas! I try to find family activities during the holidays (I put it in our Advent calendar). I’m going to definitely use some of these!
Great!!
A great idea for sure. We have to get away from all the commercialization of Christmas and get back to the truth…..the truth will set you free.
What an amazing idea! My son and I did something similar to this when he was little and I think it’s time to update! Thank you
What a lovely idea to celebrate advent.
I love this idea. We try to focus on the real meaning of the holiday and not just buying gifts.
This is a nice idea!
Awesome. This advent calendar would be a great way to teach children to do as Jesus did – spread love and kindness and show compassion to the less fortunate. I would want to have this at home as a reminder that Christmas is not about shopping and gifts. It is about the birth of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
It would be nice to start a tradition like this with the kids involved. There’s nothing better than giving back by following Jesus’ ways! I love this idea!
This is a wonderful and brilliant ideas. I am very interested to use this idea. Thanks for sharing this.
I think that leaving a gift for an anonymous family member or a friend is a good idea. This is a lovely celebration of advent month.
