It’s a hearty sauce that is rich with flavor! You can serve it with any kind of noodles that you would like. We made homemade noodles that were to die for!

Bolognese Sauce

Ingredients:

1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
3 Tablespoons butter
1/2 cup onion
2/3 cup celery, chopped
2/3 cup carrot, chopped
1 pound beef chunks, we used a roast
salt and pepper, to taste
1 cup milk
2 teaspoons nutmeg
1/2 cup white wine vinegar
1 cup chicken broth
1 1/2 cups canned tomatoes, cut up, with their juice
Parmesan cheese, grated, for garnish
1 pound pasta, cooked according to package

Directions:

In a skillet, put the oil, butter, and chopped onion and turn the heat on a medium.

Cook and stir the onion until it has become translucent, then add the chopped celery and carrot. Cook for 2 minutes longer.

Add the beef chunks, salt, and pepper. Cook until the beef is cooked through, stirring the whole time.

Lower the heat, and then add the milk. Let simmer and stir frequently until it has decreased the milk. Add the nutmeg and stir.

Add the vinegar, and scrape the bottom of the pan to get all the flavor for your sauce. Let it simmer until it has evaporated, then add the chicken broth, tomatoes and stir thoroughly to coat all ingredients well. Turn the heat to medium, and when the juices begin to bubble, turn the heat down, so the sauce can simmer.

Cook, uncovered, for an hour or more, stirring from time to time. If the sauce starts to dry out, add 1/2 cup water.

Drizzle sauce over cooked drained pasta and served with grated Parmesan cheese on top!

💭 Final Thoughts

This Classic Bolognese Sauce with Pasta is proof that comfort food doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s hearty, flavorful, and versatile enough to be a weekday staple, a family favorite, or a “just because” indulgence. Plus, it’s the kind of recipe that makes everyone smile — and isn’t that the best kind of cooking?

Here’s the thing about Bolognese — it’s never just sauce. It’s the smell of beef simmering, the joy of tomatoes bubbling, the comfort of knowing you’ve got a dish that’s both playful and nostalgic. It’s the kind of recipe that makes you feel like you’ve pulled off a dinner miracle without breaking a sweat.

And this Classic Bolognese Sauce with Pasta? It’s a keeper. It’s savory, it’s hearty, it’s indulgent, it’s fun. It’s the kind of recipe that makes you feel like you’ve turned pantry staples into something restaurant‑worthy. It’s hearty enough to feed a crowd, flexible enough to adapt to whatever toppings you’ve got hanging out in the fridge, and comforting enough to become the dish your family requests again and again.

But what I love most is how recipes like this bring us together. Food has that magic — it’s not just about eating, it’s about sharing. It’s about swapping tips, laughing over sauce‑splattered counters, and building little traditions that make life tastier. It’s about the kids sneaking extra bites when you’re not looking, the friends who ask for seconds, and the quiet satisfaction of knowing you’ve created something that feels like home.

So here’s my challenge to you: make this dish, share it with your people, and then tell me your twist. Did you add cream? Did you sneak in mushrooms? Did you double the Parmesan just because you could? (No judgment — I’d be first in line for that version.) Maybe you turned it into mini cups for portion control, or gave it a holiday glow with herbs. Whatever your spin, I want to hear about it.

💬 Reader prompt: Should we do a “Sauce Glow Series” next? I’m dreaming up marinara, Alfredo, and maybe even pesto.

Until then, may your beef be savory, your pasta tender, your sauce creamy, your Parmesan tangy, and your kitchen filled with laughter, love, and second helpings. Because at the end of the day, recipes like this aren’t just about cooking — they’re about celebrating the little joys that make life delicious.

And if you take nothing else from this post, let it be this: Classic Bolognese Sauce with Pasta isn’t just dinner, it’s a lifestyle. 🍝✨
