If you want your house to smell delicious, this is your answer. It smells so much like Christmas. All of the yummy spices create an aroma that is mouth watering. Oh, and it’s really yummy too!
Why buy that store bought stuff if you can have homemade? It’s always better when you know what ingredients you are giving to your family. You can control the sugar content and omit any spices or add any spices you like. It’s perfect! Did I mention it smells AMAZING?
I was feeling generous today and I took pictures of each step. I used my Pampered Chef apple slicer. It’s so fun to use and makes quick work of peeling and chopping the apples.
Look at the way that thing peels! And, when you pull it off the peeler, you only have to chop each apple twice into quarters. Look how pretty all those slices are! I get joy out of simple things…
When you’re done peeling and chopping, which will take longer if you don’t have a cool gadget like me, add a 1/4 cup of butter to a heavy pot.
Then add the apples on top of that.
Then add two cups of your favorite apple juice or apple cider.
Two tablespoons of brown sugar.
Lot’s of yummy spices make it smell amazing. I added 1 tablespoon of cinnamon, 1 dash of cloves, allspice, and nutmeg.
Bring the apples to a boil and let them simmer for about 20 minutes, or until they are soft.
Then, I use my hand-held mixer to blend the apples. You could also put it in a blender in small batches, but be careful if it’s still hot!
After it’s blended you can enjoy it warm or cold! It’s good both ways!
Homemade Apple Sauce
6-8 large apples
2 cups apple cider
1/4 cup of butter
2 T. brown sugar
1 T. Cinnamon
A dash of Allspice, cloves, and nutmeg.
Peel and dice apples. Melt butter in large saucepan. Add diced apples, cider, spices and sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes until the apples are soft. Blend with an immersion blender, or you can put small batches in a blender. Be careful blending hot items. They can create a steam that will make the lid pop off, ouch!
I hope you enjoy it! I know I did, and I usually don’t like applesauce.
*On a personal note, we had a mommy victory today. See this cute girl in her adorable outfit???
I bought this outfit for her when school started and she has refused to wear it because… “It’s itchy!”
This little sweetie is really sassy sometimes and she prefers to be as naked as possible, even in the dead of winter. She hates wearing sleeves or leggings. She would prefer to wear a princess or a sundress everyday. Being the responsible stubborn mom I am. I refuse to let her leave the house naked and I really would like her to look adorable too.
Finally, after trying and trying to get her to wear this. And, after many failed attempts and fits, thrown by Gracie AND me, she gave in.
How did I do it?
It was actually very simple. I pretended the outfit had feelings… I talked in a funny voice and told her I was sad she hadn’t worn me (the outfit). I talked about how beautiful I was and how I would keep her warm and cozy, and guess what!? She started talking back to the outfit!
“Yes, I love your sparkles!” she said. “I’m sorry I haven’t worn you yet!”
If you know Gracie, or a cute and sassy girl like her, you are giving me a virtual high five right now!
Look at that sweet face! I had to document this moment for her posterity!
Thanks for listening, I feel better now!
Have a great night!

Dear Jessica, I love homemade apple sauce. It brings back so many happy memories of my own childhood when my mom would make it. It's been ages since I have made it myself. Yours looks comforting and delicious. Stopping by from Whimsy Wednesday. Blessings, Catherine
Thanks for stopping by Catherine!
