Vinegar: Vinegar has a slightly acidic nature that makes it effective at dissolving grease, soap scum and lime deposits from the smooth surfaces of your kitchen and bathroom. Its also safe to use of your hardwood floors. Mix 1/2 cup of vinegar with water in a spray bottle and use it on everything, even windows.

Baking Soda: Not only does baking soda deodorize, but it also acts as a brightening abrasive. Sprinkle on the hard surfaces in the bathroom and kitchen and rub into a paste with a wet cloth, then rinse and wipe dry with a clean cloth. To boost the abrasive action for tougher cleaning jobs, add kosher salt to the paste. Sprinkling baking soda onto carpets and vacuum will freshen the fibers.

Lemon Juice: Lemon juice will cut grease, kills mold and mildew and leaves a streak free shine on hard surfaces. Combine lemon juice with vinegar or olive oil to make cleaning products that will work harder and it will leave a fresh scent behind.

Borax: This is available in the laundry detergent aisle. This makes a effective cleaning product to disinfect kitchen and bathroom surfaces. You can remove stains from your laundry before washing by rubbing in a past of dishwasher detergent and borax into the fabric and rinsing.

olive oil

Olive oil: Combine 1 cup olive oil and 1/2 cup of lemon juice in a spray bottle, you can mist it onto a soft cloth and polish wood in your home. The olive oil moisturizes the wood and gives it a fabulous shine; the lemon juice cleans the surface and leaves that great smell behind.

  1. I've used all of them with good results. Thanks for reminding me about olive oil and lemon juice. I haven't used that recently. And my hint is to wear gloves no matter what kind of cleaning products you use. Your hands will look and feel better as a result.

  2. Spring is in the air and that means it is time for spring cleaning! What better way to clean green, safe and naturally than with these powerful, natural DIY cleaning aids. I use them in my home as well. Thank you so much for sharing these natural cleaning aids with us at the Healthy, Happy, Green and Natural Party Blog Hop, I appreciate it.

  3. A still-natural compound, but one which should be used with care, is borax. This is both an anti-fungal and disinfectant, and can be combined with vinegar to help clean molded surfaces – helping ensure the mold does not quickly return. But this compound is toxic if swallowed, so store safely.
