This Chicken Cordon Bleu Lasagna is the ultimate comfort‑meets‑fancy dinner. It’s got all the flavors you love from the classic — juicy chicken, smoky ham, and melty Swiss — but instead of fiddling with breading and frying, we’re layering it all up in a creamy, cheesy lasagna that bakes to bubbly perfection.

It’s:

  • Ridiculously satisfying — every bite is creamy, cheesy, and savory.
  • Perfect for feeding a crowd — or for making Sunday dinner feel special.
  • A make‑ahead dream — assemble it earlier, bake when ready.

💬 Reader prompt: Are you a “crispy breadcrumb top” person or a “more cheese, please” kind of lasagna lover?

When I was dating my husband, we went to a fancy restaurant for a date (it was fancy for us, lol). Chicken Cordon Bleu has always been one of my favorite dishes. My hubby told me to order whatever I wanted, and yes, they had Chicken Cordon Bleu on the menu. Just so you know, this wasn’t a first date and actually we had decided to get married at this point.

I ordered my favorite dish and loved every minute! I learned later that my hubby only had a certain amount of money in his wallet and he was worried the whole time that he wasn’t going to have enough to cover the bill. I feel so bad now because I never knew!

With that being said, I totally love this dish! Lasagna has always been a family favorite, so to combine my favorites is like a dream come true!

Ingredients

  • 1 (10 ounces) package lasagna noodles (about 12 noodles)
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 to 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese, divided
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 1/2 cups rotisserie chicken, diced
  • 8 ounces deli ham, chopped
  • 1/2 cup Italian bread crumbs
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees .

  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook lasagna noodles in the boiling water until cooked through but firm to the bite, about 10 minutes. Drain.

  3. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and let simmer for a couple of minutes. Stir in cream cheese into hot butter until it begins to melt, about 5 minutes. It might look strange here! Don't worry. Season with salt, onion powder, and black pepper. Whisk milk gradually into cream cheese and then the whipping cream until smooth; make sure to do it slowly. Stir in 1 1/2 cups of Swiss cheese.

  4. Bring the sauce to a simmer, whisking continually until cheese has melted and sauce has thickened, about 5 to 10 minutes. Remove mixture from heat.

  5. Spread a thin layer of cheese sauce onto the bottom of a 9x9-inch baking dish.

  6. Arrange 1/3 of the lasagna noodles over the sauce (3 noodles for me). You can tear them to fit as needed. Spread half the cooked chicken and half the ham over the noodles. Pour 1 cup sauce over chicken and ham. Repeat layers starting with half the remaining lasagna noodles, remaining chicken, remaining ham, and 1 more cup of cheese sauce. Finish by layering remaining lasagna noodles, remaining sauce, remaining 1/2 cup Swiss cheese, and bread crumbs; sprinkle top with Italian seasoning. Cover dish tightly with aluminum foil.

  7. Bake in the preheated oven until casserole is bubbling, about 25 minutes. Remove foil and spray top with cooking spray, and continue to bake until crumbs are browned, about 10 more minutes. Let casserole stand 10 minutes before serving.

👩‍🍳 Cooking Tips for Lasagna Love

  • Don’t overcook the noodles — they’ll soften more in the oven.
  • Shred your own cheese — it melts creamier than pre‑shredded.
  • Let it rest — 10 minutes after baking helps it slice neatly.
  • Breadcrumb boost — mix bread crumbs with a little melted butter for extra crunch.
  • Make ahead — assemble up to a day in advance, refrigerate, and bake when ready.

  • Mushroom Magic — stir in sautéed mushrooms with the chicken.
  • Extra Cheesy — add mozzarella between layers for extra gooeyness.

  • Low‑Carb — swap noodles for thin zucchini slices.

🧒 Kid Tips

  • Keep garlic mild if your kids are sensitive to strong flavors.
  • Let them sprinkle the bread crumbs — they’ll feel like mini chefs.
  • Serve with a side of fruit or simple salad for balance.
  • Cut into smaller squares for little hands.
