Cheeseburger Pie

This Cheeseburger Pie is the ultimate comfort food mash-up — all the flavors of a juicy, loaded cheeseburger baked into a flaky pie crust. It’s savory, cheesy, and just a little bit cheeky. Perfect for weeknight dinners, game day spreads, or when you want to impress your family with something that looks fancy but is secretly super easy.

It’s:

  • Family-friendly — picky eaters will devour it.
  • Customizable — add your favorite burger toppings right into the pie.
  • Make-ahead friendly — assemble, chill, and bake when ready.

How many of you used to make the Bisquick version of this? I made it all the time for my kids and they loved it! This recipe is a different level of yumminess! It has all the flavors of a cheeseburger but that crust, I mean, wow!

This a perfect dish for any busy weeknight or a fun meal for a party! It fits with both and honestly, it’s not hard to make and is so full of flavor that it will make your mouth water as soon as you pull it from the oven!

👩‍🍳 Cooking Tips for the Best Cheeseburger Pie

  • Drain the beef well — Too much grease will make the crust soggy.
  • Pre-bake the crust for 5–7 minutes if you like it extra crisp.
  • Shred your own cheese — It melts creamier than pre-shredded.
  • Let it rest before slicing so the filling sets.
  • Season to taste — Burger seasoning blends vary, so adjust salt accordingly.

🎨 Recipe Variations

  • Bacon Cheeseburger Pie — Add crumbled bacon to the filling and on top.
  • Spicy Kick — Stir in diced jalapeños or pepper jack cheese.
  • Mushroom Swiss — Swap cheddar for Swiss and add sautéed mushrooms.
  • BBQ Burger Pie — Replace ketchup with BBQ sauce and add caramelized onions.
  • Veggie Burger Pie — Use plant-based ground “beef” and veggie toppings.

🧒 Kid Tips

  • Let kids sprinkle the cheese on top — they’ll feel like mini chefs.
  • Serve with ketchup or ranch for dipping.
  • Make mini pies in muffin tins for fun, individual servings.
  • Skip the pickles if your little ones aren’t fans.

🛒 Grocery Hacks

  • Buy ground beef in bulk — Freeze in 1-pound portions for easy use.
  • Store-brand cheese & condiments — Great flavor for less money.
  • Premade pie shells — A huge time saver on busy nights.
  • Breadcrumb swap — Use crushed crackers or panko if that’s what you have.
  • Rotisserie chicken twist — Swap beef for shredded chicken for a new flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon burger seasoning, or a steak seasoning blend
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup plain fine breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 6 slices dill pickles, chopped, optional
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar jack cheese, divided
  • 1 (9-inch) unbaked pie shell
  • Fresh tomatoes, sliced, chopped, optional
  • 6 to 8 cooked pieces bacon, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 F. Heat large skillet over medium heat. Crumble ground beef into skillet and add chopped onion.
  2. Cook until onion is translucent and ground beef is no longer pink, stirring constantly. Drain off excess fat.
  3. To beef and onion mixture, add minced garlic, along with burger seasoning or steak seasoning blend, salt, pepper, and breadcrumbs. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk eggs with mustard, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce.
  5. Stir in chopped dill pickle slices, if using. Stir egg mixture into cooled ground beef mixture. Add about 1 cup of the cheese and stir to blend.
  6. Pack meat and cheese mixture into pie shell and bake for 30 minutes.
  7. Top with sliced tomatoes and the bacon, if using, and then top with remaining shredded cheese. Bake cheeseburger pie for 5 to 10 minutes longer, or until cheese topping has melted and crust has browned.

Final Thoughts

This Cheeseburger Pie is the definition of comfort food — hearty, cheesy, and full of flavor. It’s easy enough for a weeknight but special enough for company. Plus, it’s endlessly adaptable, so you can make it your own every time.

Here’s the thing about Cheeseburger Pie — it’s not just dinner. It’s a little slice of joy. It’s the smell of sizzling beef and melting cheese filling your kitchen. It’s the way the crust flakes under your fork, giving way to that savory, juicy filling. It’s the comfort of a burger without the mess, and the fun of pie without the sugar rush.

It’s also a reminder that the best meals don’t have to be complicated. You don’t need a dozen fancy ingredients or hours in the kitchen to make something that makes people smile. Sometimes, it’s about taking familiar flavors and presenting them in a way that feels fresh and exciting.

And maybe that’s why I love it so much — because it’s not just about the beef or the cheese. It’s about the way everyone leans in for seconds. The way kids get wide-eyed when they realize there’s “burger in a pie.” The way it sparks conversation and laughter at the table.

So here’s my challenge to you: make this pie. Make it for your family, your friends, or just for yourself on a night when you need a little extra comfort. Play with the toppings, try new cheeses, make it your own. And when you do, share it with #PieMyBurger so we can all be inspired by your creativity.

Because life’s too short for boring dinners — let’s make every bite a little celebration. ❤️
