🐟 Creamy Tuna Casserole: The Hug-in-a-Dish You Didn’t Know You Needed

Creamy Tuna Casserole
Some recipes are like your favorite pair of fuzzy socks — comforting, dependable, and always there when you need them. This Creamy Tuna Casserole is exactly that… except it’s edible, cheesy, and topped with potato chips (which, let’s be honest, makes it even better than socks).
💌 Why This Casserole is Basically Family
I have a confession: I used to think tuna casserole was… well… a little old-fashioned. The kind of dish you’d find in a 1970s church cookbook, sandwiched between “Jell-O Salad Surprise” and “Mystery Meatloaf.” But then I made this version — rich, creamy, loaded with veggies, and crowned with a crunchy potato chip halo — and I realized tuna casserole isn’t just a retro recipe. It’s a love letter to comfort food.
This is the dish you make when:
-
You want dinner to feel like a warm hug.
-
You need to feed a crowd without breaking the bank.
-
You want something that reheats like a dream for tomorrow’s lunch.
-
You secretly want an excuse to eat potato chips for dinner.
It’s also a one-dish wonder — protein, veggies, carbs, and dairy all snuggled together under a golden crust. And the best part? It’s just as good for a Tuesday night as it is for a Sunday family dinner.
I love it when my hubby has time to cook with me! There’s a lot of laughing, talking, and a great way to create delicious meals! I can’t wait for you to try this Creamy Tuna Casserole! It’s full of flavors that the whole family will love. Easy to make!

Directions
-
Preheat & Prep Preheat oven to 375°F. Lightly butter the inside of a large baking dish and set aside.
-
Make the Sauce In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, melt butter. Add onion and celery; cook until softened, about 5–7 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute more. Sprinkle flour over the veggies and stir for 1 minute to cook out the raw taste.
-
Add the Creamy Goodness Slowly whisk in milk and half-and-half. Simmer until lightly bubbling and thickened, about 5–7 minutes. Stir in Parmesan and dry mustard. Season with salt and pepper. Remove from heat and stir in peas.
-
Cook the Pasta While the sauce is doing its thing, cook noodles in a large pot of salted boiling water until just al dente. Drain, reserving ½ cup of the cooking water.
-
Combine & Fold Transfer noodles to a large mixing bowl. Pour warm sauce over noodles. Add sour cream, mozzarella, and chives; fold gently. Add reserved pasta water a little at a time until creamy. Fold in tuna, keeping some chunks intact.
-
Top & Bake Transfer mixture to prepared baking dish. Sprinkle with crushed potato chips. Tent loosely with foil and bake for 20–30 minutes, until hot. Remove foil and bake uncovered for another 5–10 minutes, until golden and bubbly.
-
Serve & Savor Garnish with extra chives and serve immediately.
