Buttermilk Cinnamon Rolls
🍥✨ Buttermilk Cinnamon Rolls — Fluffy, Gooey, and Totally Crowd‑Approved
Soft dough, gooey cinnamon swirls, and cream cheese frosting — this is breakfast that doubles as therapy.

Breakfast isn’t just the first meal of the day — it’s the tone‑setter, the vibe‑maker, the reason you can face the world without snarling at your coworkers. But let’s be honest: not all breakfasts deserve applause. Some are bland, some are boring, and some just don’t deliver that gooey‑meets‑fluffy magic. Enter Buttermilk Cinnamon Rolls — the glow‑up version of morning comfort food meets indulgent layers.
This recipe is indulgent in its own way: it’s fluffy, it’s gooey, it’s creamy, and it’s the kind of dish that makes you want to grab seconds (because one roll is never enough). Buttermilk brings cozy satisfaction, cinnamon sugar swoops in like the aromatic crown jewel, raisins and walnuts add indulgence, and that cream cheese frosting? That’s the mic‑drop moment.
Why this recipe is a keeper:
- Effortless elegance — pantry staples, bakery‑worthy results.
- Flavor fireworks — cinnamon + buttermilk + frosting = roll magic.
- Family‑friendly — picky eaters don’t stand a chance.
- Make‑ahead friendly — keeps beautifully.
- Instagram‑worthy — glossy frosting deserves a close‑up.

This is something special! It just makes you think of home and your family when you have a pan of these gems! We have tried different recipes but we keep coming back to this one. The buttermilk makes all the difference!

buttermilk cinnamon rolls
ingredients
1/2 cup warm milk
2 eggs, room temperature
1/3 cup butter, melted
½ cup buttermilk, room temperature
1 teaspoon salt
½ cup sugar
1 package yeast
4 ½ cups flour
Filling:
1 cup brown sugar, packed
2 ½ tablespoons cinnamon
¼ cup butter, softened
1 cup raisins, optional
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
Icing:
1 package of cream cheese, softened
1 stick of butter, softened
2 cups powder sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
A pinch of salt
directions
Combine the warm milk and yeast in a small bowl. Set aside until the yeast is activated. Then combine the milk-yeast mixture to the eggs, butter, salt, sugar and flour in a bread mixer.
Once the ingredients are mixed together, place the dough into a greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap. The dough will need to double in size before you move to the next step, (it will take about an hour).
Grease the counter top and roll the dough until it’s about a ½ inch thick.
Cover the dough with the melted butter and sprinkle the sugar and cinnamon mixture evenly over the butter. Sprinkle the raisins and walnuts evenly.
Slowly roll the dough into a tube. My husband likes to mark the top of the dough to make sure the rolls will be even. Then take a piece of dental floss and start from the bottom of the tube and wrap it around the tube and cross the floss at the top and squeeze, it will slice the dough into the perfect cinnamon roll.
Place the rolls into a greased cake pan and cover with plastic wrap. Let rise until it doubles
in size, (It will take about 30 minutes). Cook on 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.
While the cinnamon rolls are cooking, combine all the icing ingredients together in a small bowl.
Quickly spread the icing on the cinnamon rolls, the icing will melt into the seams and make them even more delicious!

💭 Final Thoughts
These Buttermilk Cinnamon Rolls are proof that comfort food doesn’t have to be complicated. They’re hearty, flavorful, and versatile enough to be a weekday staple, a family favorite, or a “just because” indulgence. Plus, they’re the kind of recipe that makes everyone smile — and isn’t that the best kind of baking?
Here’s the thing about cinnamon rolls — they’re never just dough. They’re the smell of cinnamon swirling, the joy of frosting dripping, the comfort of knowing you’ve got a dish that’s both playful and nostalgic. They’re the kind of recipe that makes you feel like you’ve pulled off a breakfast miracle without breaking a sweat.
And these Buttermilk Cinnamon Rolls? They’re keepers. They’re fluffy, they’re hearty, they’re indulgent, they’re fun. They’re the kind of recipe that makes you feel like you’ve turned pantry staples into something bakery‑worthy. They’re hearty enough to feed a crowd, flexible enough to adapt to whatever toppings you’ve got hanging out in the fridge, and comforting enough to become the dish your family requests again and again.
But what I love most is how recipes like this bring us together. Food has that magic — it’s not just about eating, it’s about sharing. It’s about swapping tips, laughing over frosting‑splattered counters, and building little traditions that make life tastier. It’s about the kids sneaking extra bites when you’re not looking, the friends who ask for seconds, and the quiet satisfaction of knowing you’ve created something that feels like home.
So here’s my challenge to you: make this dish, share it with your people, and then tell me your twist. Did you add caramel? Did you sneak in raisins? Did you double the frosting just because you could? (No judgment — I’d be first in line for that version.) Maybe you turned it into mini cups for portion control, or gave it a holiday glow with sprinkles. Whatever your spin, I want to hear about it.
💬 Reader prompt: Should we do a “Roll Glow Series” next? I’m dreaming up pumpkin rolls, chocolate rolls, and maybe even birthday cake rolls.
Until then, may your dough be fluffy, your cinnamon spicy, your frosting creamy, your sugar sparkly, and your kitchen filled with laughter, love, and second helpings.
