Hello New Year Challenge Get Organized

This new challenge is how to make your life better and less complicated. This is Cassie and I’m in charge of week two for our hello, New Year Challenge. Join our Facebook group for lots of extra tips, reminders, and support throughout all of January.

Week 2 is all about simplifying your life. Getting organized can be difficult but it helps in making sure there is time for you and everything you want to do.

My New Years Resolution was to get more fit. My problem is I never feel like I have the time. In order to make the time I need to be more organized and plan ahead.

Challenge Seven: Calendar Important and Not So Important Things

This is honestly one of my biggest stressors, forgetting things is the worst. Go purchase a Calendar to hang on your wall like Kimmer or put it on your phone and write down all important events. I like to have mine on my phone because I always have it with me. This way I never forget things.

Challenge Eight: Plan Meals Weekly

I love to cook, but I always want to make something good and then I go shopping 3 or 6 times a week to get ingredients for everything I want to make and then end up spending more money than I should. I know what to do but I just don’t always do it.

Make a meal plan and a shopping list on Fridays, go shopping on Saturdays. I like to go through our cupboards and try to make things that we already have. It helps to save money and time.

Challenge Nine: Dejunk and Declutter Your Life

This may take a couple days. You could pick a room a day, we currently are in the process of moving. Our landlords want to sell the house we’re living in and so we have to move out before our house is done being built. We have been packing on Saturdays and I am realizing we have so many things that we do not need.

I threw out literally 4 garbage bags full of clothes and sweats that I haven’t worn in who knows how long. Look in your junk drawer/cupboard, and any other hidden places and throw out stuff you don’t need!

Challenge Ten: Plan a Vacation

It’s hard at the beginning of the year to see beyond all the snow, so I say plan a trip with your family! Put that on your calendar!

Challenge Eleven: Create a Budget

My husband and I have been trying to save money with our new house and what not. We have been planning how much we should spend on food, bills and extra expenses. This is a hard one for me, but having Matt has helped a ton!

Challenge Twelve: Organize your Documents

I’m new to this parenting thing, but we all of the sudden have all these important documents we need to save. I read somewhere that you should scan in what you can and store them on a hard drive. We also bought a file organizer to help organize all our papers. It’s been awesome!

Challenge Thirteen: Go Through Your Pantry

Go through your pantry and throw out the food that has expired and decide what you do and don’t need. Especially, if you are deciding to eat more healthy then get rid of all the food that isn’t exactly conducive to your new healthy lifestyle!

  1. My goal this year is to lose 25 lbs. god knows I need to and I am making a real effort to make it happen this year.

  2. You have so many great challenges and it reminds me of all the things I should be doing. Planning the getaway is a nice idea and I definitely need to clean out my pantry.but yours looks so organized already.

  3. I have a calendar on the wall in my kitchen. Everyone has to write down anything that’s planned on that calendar so we know who is going and do what when. I also meal plan. I couldn’t imagine trying to figure out dinner without my bi weekly menu.

  4. I have a calendar on my phone and desktop. They make a huge difference in my life! I know grocery shopping three or four times a week technically costs more money but I do not have the space to store food so it’s the only option for the moment. I do like that it means lots of fresh fruits and veggies!

  5. Thank you for reminding me that I need to be more organized this year. I have loads of cardboard boxes left over from Christmas and this is something that I definitely need to get rid of. I also need to start planning meals weekly and I think that is such a great idea!

  6. I am the WORST when it comes to being organized. I would do anything to change! Thank you for all of these tips!

  7. These challenges are awesome and you don’t have to do it all if you feel pressured. You can do them one by one or you can simply just do one challenge for the whole year. It’s definitely going to be rewarding no matter what challenge you pick!

  8. I too am trying to get organized for this year. I just made my first bullet journal and have been using it consistently so far. I will try some of these tips on your challenge. Thanks.

  9. I’m obsessed with scheduling and to-do lists (all digitally though – I forgot my wall calendar for most of ’17), but for some reason I have been avoiding cleaning my pantry. I really need to do that!

  10. I really like having a different challenge every week. I think it keeps me from feeling overwhelemd and also gives me something new to work on all the time.

  11. I have a calendar on my phone. When I schedule an appointment, I’ll put it in my notes app, then add to my calendar. I also inbox it to myself! That way, I have it listed twice, in case something happens, plus I have it accessible on my computer.

  12. Ooo! That pantry! I systematically cleaned out all my drawers in the house last year. It was a great thing. This year it is closets. I want to reduce the amount I store. The group sounds fun!

  13. Thanks so much for all your tips, some great ideas on how to stay organised, definitely need to get better at keep;ing my calender up to date!

  14. I have a calendar on my phone, next to my bed, in my bag and on my computer – too much?! Haha. But seriously, it’s the only way I get all the clutter out of my head and actually accomplished. Thanks for all of your tips – planning a vacation is a great one to see the light at the end of the winter tunnel!

    XO, Elis

  15. I have been working on doing all of my scheduling and cleaning out of things and it has felt so nice. A good declutter can really make me feel better and ready to take on the new year.

  16. I’m definitely working on decluttering right now! My reward to myself is going to be installing Elfa shelving, but right now my priority is getting rid of stuff I don’t need!

  17. I totally am an alarm setter as a schedule planner. We aren’t working on reorganizing our pantry and shelf space daily in our house and the progress reLly feels amazing.

  18. I have a lot I want to do with health and fitness this year. The good thing I did this holiday break is reorganize my bathroom drawers. Just doing that makes me feel so good and want to tackle a new task.

  19. These are some really great tips! Man, that is my dream pantry. I wish I could get and keep mine that organized. I agree that getting organized is a large part of accomplishing goals for the year. It sounds like you are already off to a great start!

  20. I desperately need to get organized this year. There is so much on our plates and I need to make it all work together.

  21. All of these are on my list to tackle this year too. I really need to focus on budgeting well and making sure I have a good meal plan. Meal planning takes away those spontaneous take out nights that cost $$$!
