My grandma went out for the afternoon and left a pot of soup on the stove on low heat. She was gone longer than expected and when she came back home there was billowing smoke in her kitchen.

The smell spread out through the entire house, upstairs and down. Her house smelled like a Vegas hotel for days and days and it would not go away. Here is what we did to get out the smell.

First, we opened all of the windows to get the air flowing through the house. It helped but it just wasn’t enough.

Next, we used Febreeze on everything. You should wash everything you can, such as blankets, sheets, pillows and etc. We sprayed everything that could not go in the washer. It still was not enough.

Third, we boiled lemons and cloves and washed down the walls with water and dusted everything. Then on appliances, I washed them with vinegar and water. That helped the most.

I hope this works for you as well as they did for us. The smell is almost completely gone, every once and a while we will get a hint of it.
