Spring is in the air! Buds are sprouting, birds are nesting, grass is growing. And chances are your local parks and recreation areas are being spruced up for the warmer days ahead. The kids are certainly anxious to get back outside to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, so what better time to shake off the winter chill and take advantage of the longer days than with a springtime trip to the playground?
This is one of my favorite times of the year! Nothing is better than experiencing new things with your kids. As a family, we love to be outside and feeling that cool fresh air on your face.
A lot of our nights include softball games, target shooting, bug collecting, bubble blowing, swim meets, Dutch oven cooking, and jumping in puddles from the Spring rains. After being in the house all Winter, it is a great time to get your kids off all their electronics and enjoy the simple things that just make you smile!
I see people on TV that have tons of money, and of course, I would love to be one of these people, but I have come to realize that nothing brings you more joy or satisfaction than experiencing the little moments with your family.
The Voice of Play is an education and advocacy initiative of the non-profit membership association, IPEMA, formed to educate and promote the benefits of children’s free outdoor play and playgrounds. Through the Voice of Play website and social media properties, IPEMA highlights the scientifically proven physical, social, emotional and cognitive benefits of play.
How do you and your family get re-acclimated to the outdoors following the off-season dormancy? I invite you to help spread the message about the benefits of free, outdoor play and share what you and your children enjoy most at the community playground with the coming of spring. Is it the rekindling of friendships, the chance for kids to try out new skills they may have “grown into” over the winter months, or just the fun of sharing time together outside?
