DIY Movie Theater Sign

Last week I got asked at the last minute if I’d like to advertise my film camp at the Good Life Expo in Spanish Fork. I wanted to make an awesome sign but I didn’t have much time.

I threw this together during one of my baby’s naps (if you don’t speak mom language that means it was pretty dang fast!) so it’s not perfect but I think it looks pretty cool! Plus I have some tips so that yours will turn out even better!

WHAT YOU NEED:

Cardboard (for the background)
Black Spray Paint
Yellow, Grey, and White Chalkboard Markers*
Bulb lights ($12 at Target!)
Scissors
Pencil

**or you can use acrylic paint. I used paint with the yellow and grey but that is why it looks sub-par to the white. I changed halfway through because I realized how much I had over estimated my painting skills. The markers are sooo much easier!

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Cut your cardboard to the right size.

2. Spray it black.

3. Sketch your design onto it with pencil.

4. Use the markers or paint to complete your design and let it dry. (You may have to do multiple coats so the letters are thicker)

5. Poke enough holes for each bulb with closed scissors. Make sure the end cap of the bulb sits in the cardboard, not the bulb, so that you don’t have a fire hazard on your hands!

6. Unscrew the bulb and stick the end through, then re-screw in the bulb to attach it to the sign!

Feel free to share a picture of your completed project!! Also, if you have any other DIY projects that are movie related I would love for you to share it! I am going to be doing a lot to get ready for my film camp!

XOXO

  1. Hi Amber,
What a great way to set the stage for a great night of family movie viewing! Thank you for sharing this super cool DIY Movie Theater Sign with us at the Healthy, Happy, Green and Natural Party Blog Hop! I’m pinning and sharing!

  2. How cute is this? I love this idea!!! It would be neat to make with chalkboard paint where you could change the text too and reuse it. Thanks for sharing at Motivational Monday Link Party! I can't wait to see what you share this Sunday night.
