We’ve thrown many bridal showers over the last little while so I thought I’d do a post about how to throw one because I remember during the first one thinking “where do we even start?!”

GETTING STARTED

1. Decide When and Where: This needs to happen first because you want to make sure the date, time, and location works for all the helpers, and most importantly, the bride.

2. Establish a Theme: If you want to please the bride, simply ask her what her wedding theme/colors are and go from there. This is important to do early on because you’ll want to make sure you and your helpers are all on the same page. Be sure to also decide if your shower will be an open house, or a structured event with games or activities. (see below)

3. Delegate Tasks: Don’t leave everything to yourself. Though you may find yourself in charge, most people are usually excited to help. Ask others to help with food, decorations, etc.

INVITING GUESTS

4. Gather Addresses: Have the bride give you a list of names and addresses of people she would like to be invited. If she doesn’t know someone’s address you can Facebook message them or look online using whitepages.com.

5. Create an Invitation: There are a million things you can do for invitations these days. Anything from homemade to pre-made works just great. If you really don’t know where to start try looking at Shutterfly’s invitations. They are adorable and fairly inexpensive.

6. Mail Invites: You usually want to do this about two weeks before the shower. This gives people time to plan ahead and save the date.

DECORATING

7. Clean and Set Up Early: You will be so happy the day of the shower if you don’t have to worry about cleaning and decorating and can just focus on getting yourself ready, so do yourself a favor and do it early! Even if it is just the night before it makes a huge difference.

8. Create a Space for Gifts: Be sure to designate an area for your guests to set their gifts. No one wants to have to carry something extra around with them and you want to make sure there’s plenty of sitting room, so section off a corner by the bride and when someone enters, direct them to place their gift there.

9. Make Your Location Easy to Find: Make sure your location is easy to find by marking it with a some sort of sign. Balloons are also a great, inexpensive way to catch attention.

FOOD

9. The More Food the Merrier: The more variety the better! This is when a lot of helpers comes in handy. Smaller portions also give people the chance to sample everything. Plus, mini things just look cute!

DURING THE SHOWER

10. Open House Style or Games: We usually do our bridal shower’s open house style so that guests can come and go as they please, and everyone can relax and chat. It all depends on the personality of the host and of the bride though so click here for a great list of games/activities just in case 😉

11. Keep Record of Guests and Gifts: The bride will probably want to thank everyone who came, and thank them for their gifts. Instead of writing a list of every person and gift we simply take a photo of the bride with the guest and gift. That way the bride has the information as well as a fun keepsake!
