Kid Approved Whole 30 Meal Ideas

Earlier this week I shared our family’s story about How We Quit Sugar. Since then I’ve had a lot of friends ask me what we ate, and how we managed to get our kids on board with eating this way for 30 days.

So I thought I’d just share some simple ideas, that our kids enjoyed the most. Breakfast was always some type of eggs, fruit, and an avocado.

The kids didn’t love avocados at first, but with a little salt, they could be convinced to try them. My oldest really loved Wholly Guacamole on Everything!

We (the adults) topped our eggs with some homemade salsa I made with my grandma this summer, and then I let the kids eat theirs with organic ketchup (which is NOT Whole 30, but it saved our lives). And I figured it was better than eating cereal.

Another kid favorite were these easy two-ingredient Banana Pancakes. You can find the recipe here.

Lunch was different every day. We would usually keep it simple and send the kids with almonds, fruit, hard-boiled eggs, a Primal Pac, Lara Bar, and water. The kids also enjoyed Aidell’s Chicken and Apple Sausages with a little homemade mayo.

Hubby and I ate salads for lunch with homemade ranch dressing, or leftovers from dinner the night before.

I also really enjoyed my fruit-infused water. My favorite combo was frozen raspberries with lime in ice-cold water. Yummy! Oranges are also really good in your water.

Dinner was different every night. My kids LOVE spaghetti squash, so I made a lot of meatballs.  You can find a lot of Whole 30 recipes on Pinterest, but I just did my own thing and added a lot of finely chopped veggies, an egg, and spices.

Rolled them up and baked them. I also made homemade tomato sauce with stewed tomatoes from this summer. SO yummy, and the kids really loved it!

My hubby loved a good steak with shrimp on top, with any veggies on the side. I can’t eat a ton of meat right now, since I’m prego and it makes me feel blah, so I opted out of a hearty steak meal.

Another kid favorite was Shrimp Scampi with Zoodles . Our kids LOVE crab and shrimp, so this was a no brainer for us. Simply sauté shrimp in a little garlic and Ghee (clarified butter) and serve over sautéed zucchini noodles.

You’re definitely going to want to buy a Veggetti, or some other type of tool to make Zoodles, the kids love them, and they taste like noodles.

Another Dinner favorite was sweet potato chips with chicken salad. Slice your sweet potatoes really thin, toss in olive or avocado oil,  sprinkle with salt, and bake at 375 for 30-40 minutes until crisp.

Make your chicken salad with grapes, celery, chopped apples, green onion, homemade mayo, sliced almonds, and organic canned chicken. Easiest meal ever!

My biggest tip would be to think about the things your family already loves and find ways to make them Whole 30. That way, it’s not such a huge adjustment for the kids.

Luckily, my kids already liked to eat vegetables, so I wasn’t starting from scratch.

  1. So many great ideas! This is awesome! I am definitely a fan of healthy, whole food diets, so thank you for sharing your Kid Approved Whole 30 Meal Ideas with us at the at the Healthy, Happy, Green and Natural Party Blog Hop! I’m pinning and sharing!

  2. My son loves sweet potato chips and spaghetti – I am so glad they made this list! Thanks for linking up at the Tots and Toddlers Thursday Link Up Party, I hope to see you again tomorrow at this fortnight's party!

  3. This is all very nifty. I just hope that I can get my incredibly picky almost-4-and-2-yo on board. Grandma introduced a lot of junky processed food and I hate to admit that I just climbed aboard when my oldest started refusing to eat anything green or not in a box. :\ say a little prayer!

    1. You can do it! You don’t have to do it overnight, just start by making small changes here and there. Stop buying the bad stuff and start offering the good stuff more often. Junk food is definitely easier in the beginning, but having kids that will eat anything is easier in the long run. I believe in you!
