Easy Baked Monte Cristo Sandwiches

Baked Monte Cristo Sandwiches

I’m always looking for an easier way to do things. This recipe is definitely SUPER easy, and my kids loved it. If you’ve never had a Monte Cristo sandwich, it’s a mix of savory and sweet.

They sell them at the Blue Bayou in Disneyland, and they are super delicious, but they are also deep fried. So I wanted to find something easier and healthier, but with the same yummy ingredients. This did not disappoint.

Baked Monte Cristo Sandwiches

1 loaf of French bread, cut into thick slices

1 package of thinly sliced ham

1 pack of Swiss cheese slices

12 eggs

1/4 cup of heavy whipping cream

1/4 cup of milk

Powdered Sugar

Your favorite jam or jelly

Directions:

Start by putting one layer of bread in the bottom of a greased casserole dish. Make sure to squeeze them in, so there isn’t any dead space.

In a separate bowl, mix the eggs, cream, and milk together. Pour half of the mixture over the bread.

Next, cover the egg and bread with your cheese and ham. (The ham is underneath the cheese.)

Top the ham and cheese with the remaining bread, and finally, the remaining egg mixture.

Cover the dish and put it in the fridge for 2-3 hours, so the egg can saturate all the bread. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes, or until the center is firm. Sprinkle powdered sugar on the top of your casserole.

Finish by drizzling your favorite jam on top. I like raspberry jalapeno, but my kids liked the blueberry preserves.
