Delicious Stone Drug Burgers

Stone Drug Burgers – Kim Style

Stone Drug Burgers

For those of you who are not from Spanish Fork, Stone Drug is a little Drug Store on Main Street. It has been there forever. My aunt Kim worked there and always makes their awesome hamburgers! They are super good and very different. So I asked her to send me her recipe. She then told me that everyone who worked there would put their own little twist on the burgers, well here is hers. We made them last night and they are pretty much incredible!!! Thanks Kim for the recipe!!

Here is her email to me:

Cassie,

When I worked there, we all had our own little ‘tweak’ that we would add to this recipe.  When I make it, I make about 10 lbs and use it for patties and meatballs.  I bake the meatballs and then put them in the freezer for a ready-to-go meal of spaghetti and meatballs or use them with beef stroganoff.  (It’s messy, so if I’m going to get all gooey, I want to make several meals at once so it is worth the hamburger squishing!)

1 c. bread crumbs or ½ pkg of
crushed saltines
1 egg
1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Blend well.  If  too sticky, add  more crumbs.  If  too dry add another egg!  Use ½ c. measuring cup and pack with hamburger.  Use wax paper cut into squares.  Lay ½ c. burger on paper and put another piece on top, then smash with a plate for a perfect patty!  Grill low and slow outside, or fry inside.
Serve with buns or in lettuce wraps.

After eating the burgers we were thinking the meatballs that she mentioned in her email would be great for an appetizer, especially for the super bowl. Make the meatballs, bake them at 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes then put about a teaspoon of marinara on top and stick a toothpick in each one and serve. Or you could buy those cute little appetizer spoons and put the marinara in the bottom of those and put the meatball on top. Yummy!! Enjoy!

  1. My brothers family lives in Spanish Fork and we went last summer to visit and take the kids to the Salt Lake temple. It was so much fun. I am wishing we had stopped at that drug store now. I'll have to put it on my "To Do" list the next time we are in town, and in the meantime, I think I'll give these a try.
